Animation Commissions???? by MadMeeper

So I'm wondering about animation commissions. How many people would be interested or, do you think people would be interested?

Atm, I only have the skill and knowledge I believe to do simple things like this and this but if people were interested, I would go out of my way to learn how to cleanup and make things nice.

Price would probably be by the hour since its an EXTRAORDINARY amount of work. But I wanted to see who would be interested regardless!

Feedback in general would be helpful. :>

Good question I havent figured it out??? It would be higher than minimum wage, in cali its gonna be $9 an hour come July or soooo. To be honest these simple animations only took me about 30-45 minutes apiece! So I might lean to something like $10 an hour depending on what happens?? I guess it also depends on my ability to deliver quality in a short period of time. Id have to make a whole thing and clean it up and time myself.

I am also just a student, so theres also the question of whether or not my nanimates are WORTH more than minimum hahah. Maybe less starting out to generate examples???

Yee I'd say have a faff about with what you can do while timed, I'd love to see your work cleaned up proper

        Sorry I wrote a LOT

I mean PERSONALLY I'd prolly order like a walk cycle or animal run as I wouldn't know what to ask for with a character standing about doing a chore or whatever. How they move can be hard to capture and might need constant relaying to the customer perhaps? I remember Kozz did animated coms a while back as pictures with simple tweaks like smoke or lighting which might not be what you're looking to do but somat to consider or work from?

If you want somat to practice with you've got a HUGE arsenal of characters and body types of your own or offer up requests to play with for your closest, but def get some practice and examples up and I look forward to seeing them!

As for cash uuuh really the rule is charge what you want and the balance of 'I need customers' vs 'I need cash' is a hard one to make but I'd say $9-10 over 6 hours was a fair wage for cleaned work considering every frame is a picture depending on how far you go into it, but if you really want the experience of handling a commision of that type and a ~mystery character~ consider lowering the price but don't rip yourself off

In accordance with the above comment, I think you should start out with one or two at a reduced "experimental" price so you can have examples of what timed, clean work looks like when done for others. You've got the inherent skill, I don't think there's much of a question on that. I also know that animating is time consuming and expensive, so you should scout out what other animators are charging if you haven't already.

As for what that price is.. I couldn't tell ya, that's out of my realm. That's just how I'd go about gauging interest better.
