Finally feeling a lot more settled and at home in my hometown after a good 15 year absence. The island has changed a lot but the are still many things to be appreciated like family and all the great food and new found energy :3
I've returned to my mother's home province of Phuket [pronounced Poo-ket] Island in Thailand. I spent my early teen years here before moving over to Alberta, Canada in 1997 to attend u
niversity. Loved it over there, made wonderful friends and had a great time working in the videogames industry, but my wife and I felt it was time for a change of scenery. So~ now I am back here to stay for a while and continue my art /projects.
Ahh, excellent, thank you for the reply. I've never made my way over to that part of the world, but I shall someday. I had a Thai classmate at university who's parents I knew since they ran two Thai restaurants in Boston, and I frequented them often. The food is amazing, though you already know that. Best of luck in your endeavors!
Many thanks! Thai food is indeed awesome along with so many other cuisines of the world :9~ I have heard many great things about Boston and hope to visit there someday. I have fallen in love with north american craft beers.
Boston's a lovely city that's just the right size for that big city feel, but is so drenched in American history that you can barely walk into something that hasn't had some significance. It also tends to get voted the most "drunken" city in the US most years, and with the Sam Adams and Harpoon breweries anchoring the area, you will most definitely not be disappointed.
Though this country really does have some fantastic craft beers, though. Flying Anchor from San Francisco, CA also comes to mind. I'm more of a dark beer guy myself, so I always go nuts for the stouts and porters.
Mmmmm, I do love stouts in particular along with the few porters I've had the joy to experience. Same goes for the few bocks I've tried as well as well. I saw Flying anchor at a store back in Alberta so I will try to grab some when I head back over there later this summer for 2 months [to visit family and friends and tie up some loose ends on the business and tax end of things].
Excellent, always glad to meet a fellow stout enthusiast. I'd also recommend the Belhaven black stout if you haven't come across it, it's a Scotland import. Fortunately I asked the local store if they'd start stocking it, and they did! Are there any Thai breweries/local brands, out of curiosity? I feel like I remember reading an article about a popular local beer being boycotted due to possibly political reasons. I'd have go search for it, though.
I will most definitely keep an eye out for Belhaven! Unfortunately the Thai craft brewery scene is in its infancy at best and centred in the capital I believe, due to their access to the knowledge and resources. Also, the choice is small to begin with [you can probably count the available brews using both hands] and this probably isn't helped by the current turmoil in the capital :[
Currently I believe it is Singha Beer, the oldest brew, that is being boycotted in northern Thailand by government supporters aka the 'Red Shirts'. This is due to one of the heiresses of the company being a political activist in favour of governmental reform aka 'Yellow Shirts'. Such a headache and I hope we find a middle ground and move onto a peaceful solution ; w;
Ah yes, that was the article I read! I'm glad I got that right, I can pretend I am at least a little worldly for yet another day, heh. That's an unfortunate situation, I too hope a middle ground is found for Thailand; haven't heard anything in the news about the situation for awhile now, thanks to all of the attention on Russia/Ukraine/Crimea. I suppose it's a good reminder for how fortunate we are to have that choices that we do in the US, although I think it comes with its tradeoffs.
If you ever do run into the brews I recommended and still remember me, do let me know how they were!
Heheh, it's always good to keep an ear to the ground in regards to the rest of the world ;]
Thankfully the affairs here has been slightly tense, but no where near as volatile as the situation over in Eastern Europe/Ukraine. My heart goes out to those folks since the issues they have to deal with are magnitudes higher and way more dangerous. We will see how things work out here in Thailand come the July election and potential reformation since that is when everything comes to a head. It definitely makes me appreciate the relative peace and quiet/control that is to be had in North America.
Regardless, I will definitely let you know when I get the wonderful opportunity to try out those brews you recommended :D ! I will also keep an eye out for any other concoction that catches my tastebuds and pass it on.

Ooh, an island. Whereabouts, if I may?
Also, stunning work you've got, just went and picked out my favorite piece!
