I disabled my favorites, sorry! by Schiraki

Hello everyone!

First I was happy to see that weasyl finaly managed to show your favorites on your gallery frontpage.
I appreciated it, I like to support the people whose art inspire me.

BUT...

When I give a favorite its mostly art thats way better then mine and because weasyl was so intelligent to put the favs directly unter my own submissions, I had to disable it, because I dont want the people that finally stumbled over my gallery to directly leave to an other artist.
I mean....serously weasyl team?! What kind of joke is that?

If they finaly came to the reflection and change that problem, maybe by simply moving the favorites to the bottom of the gallery frontpage, I will turn them back on.

Sorry guys :/

I disabled my favorites, sorry!

Schiraki

Not a problem; I've never seen this new feature before now, and I've just disabled it... mmmh... :P

It is realy sad. I dont understand why you publish such a feature without spening a second thought on it.

Disabling favorites basically sets your gallery back to how it was before they did the change. So people can still go to your favorites tab and see your favorites. Which I prefer more than the new way as well.
Eventually they'll have our front pages fully customizable I'm sure.

I hope so. I like the idea of thumbnails of my favorites more then just the link, but it is just too overburdened.

It's not a joke. We listen to feedback, particularly constructive criticism. Not everyone is going to love every feature, and I can assure you that we as a staff don't make decisions with a cavalier attitude; there are reasons why things are done the way they are. Sometimes it doesn't always turn out as you want, but if you don't try things you can't find out what the reaction will be. Even so, there will be many more updates, changes, tweaks, and features added in Weasyl's future. Thank you for using the site.

I appreciate more features and updates, if they are well thought-out. Putting a bar with thumbnails of the same size then your own gallery thumbnails exactly under them is like welcoming a guest and pointing directly to the exit. The site is so well made and I had the impression that people work on it that have professional expierience or are just well trained.
But if I would put a big fat advertising banner of a competitors company under the header of one of my clients pages at work, I would get directly fired.
Where is the reason for putting this feature just there? Everything about it is cool, but the place.
At least you are able to disable it, but this shouldnt be the solution.
I wait for the things to come.
This is one of the best art gallerys I know at the web and I just hope there will be a solution to advertise other artists on you gallery frontpage without kicking your guests out of the door in the future.

        From About Weasyl:

"Weasyl is a social gallery website"

I point this out because the feature has been highly requested as a social one, and while I do not make website design decisions for Weasyl, I believe it was an attempt to give a higher weight to favorites. I suppose many people see favorites as the equivalent to the Facebook "Like" button, where it's a simple way to show appreciation without any real thought, and this happens to bother some people to the point where they find favorites pointless. The feedback has generally been "we want this feature, but not in this location." We've heard the users, trust me, and for now we at least have the option to disable the bar until we figure out how we want to go forward with it. It's not my decision, but I do relay the feedback I see when browsing the site.

A lot of us are new to this, it's an adventure. I just want you and other users to know that we listen and we care about what users think, because we all want this website to work and become something special. There are going to be growing pains, though, like with anything. It's going to take time, but we have a strong foundation. So my words of wisdom would be to continue to express your feedback for us, because we definitely want it.

I am sure you -and the whole team- care, this is the reason why I am still here on this gallery. ;)
I have an FA and DA account too and I dont realy "need" a third gallery. But because I see the improvements and movements on the site, I think its worthwhile to be here.
So dont get me wrong, just because I complain about one feature doesnt mean I think everything done here is wrong. As I mentioned before, this site is very well made and functional and I highly appreciate how quick art theft is handeled.
I doesnt wanted you to feel bad in any way, its just when everything works so well the expectations are high.
