What got you into drawing furry art?

    • Link

At first, I loved anthro characters. I didn't know furries existed until I found a link to FA from Deviantart. Then, my first boyfriend was a furry and he opened it up a bit more for me, but after we broke up I had a bad taste in my mouth about it (because he was into some weird stuff). But I stayed on FA and kept watching. Then I decided to start drawing them because they were fun and I discovered I liked drawing porn. I've always been into anime and manga, so it wasn't a large step to come over here. Plus, the people are nice and supportive.

How long have you been drawing characters for? Did you draw much anime/manga stuff yourself before drawing anthros? And if so, did that make it any easier to start drawing anthros or was there still a whole bunch of new techniques you had to learn to successfully draw characters like that?

I have no idea when i started drawing characters...it just happened and I never noticed. I don't think I intentionally did it.

I drew a ton of anime/manga stuff before and it did help a lot. It gave me a place to start. At first, for me, i thought everything had to be picture perfect realism, but after doing a lot of cartooning, I found that I was more graphic oriented, so it was easier to draw that stuff. Anthro was a pretty easy switch, I just had to learn how to angle muzzles, figure out skulls from different animals and learn about feet/hands with paws and stuff. It took a little extra work, but it was worth it.

Thanks so much for the detailed answers! I've been practicing anime/manga stuff myself but would like to eventually move on to drawing furry stuff, so this is definitely good to hear.

yeah, no problem. Always glad to help!

What's up with your avatar? Like, why is it what it is?

Lol. I've always loved doing graffiti work and I really liked the apocalyptic style of games like Borderlands. I had a friend in college who did a lot of gas mask art and I thought it was cool. So, since in like graffiti, I changed it to a respirator. In all reality, it was a doodle portrait that i just really liked. It's maybe a way I would like to see myself, but I have too many body-image issues to see myself like that. I consider him a goal to achieve.

Cool, thanks for the answer. I'd consider my otter as a bit of a goal too, but I'm fairly close to him. That one last hill is proving to be a bitch though, haha.

Lol, I have a long ways to go. I'm nothing like him at all.

Gotta take the first step, at least! I dropped and have maintained a 25 lb loss since November (lost all that weight in a short span of like.. 3 months, have kept it off for an additional 2 but have plateau'd). Not sure if you're trying to go up or down, but it's totally possible with the right attitude and plan of action!

I'll be totally honest with you, I'm terrified to lose weight. I want to, but I'm scared. I have watched a bunch of other people (one in particular) lose over 100lbs and then they turn into huge narcissistic assholes who think everyone wants to sleep with them. I've never been a healthy weight my entire life, I'm afraid of what it will do to my personality.

Think about it in terms of health, then. Don't do it for vanity, do it for prolonging your life, ease of movement, and general quality of day to day life.

true. I need to change my mind about it a bit.
