Can't say that I care for by Susiron

having my favorites on my profile like this, Weasyl.

It's too close in proximity to my submissions-- and looks too similar. It really destroys the streamline quality that the profiles had without this.

We already have a tab to view favorites. Idk why it was necessary to slap them straight onto the profile. One straight line of thumbnails looks infinitely better than two.

I mean, yeah you do give an option to hide user favorites so I suppose other people won't see them on my profile, but I can still personally see them on my profile and it just looks so ugly and unnecessarily bulky I feel like I'm looking at an internet explorer toolbar.

BUT thank you for finally adding more selective notification checks. This makes it infinitely easier to clean out my inbox.

Can't say that I care for

This. This all the way, lol.

We're working on the option to not display your favorites to yourself. We appreciate the feedback and apologize for any inconvenience!

Thank you so much for the quick, clarifying message! I really didn't expect to hear anything from a moderator just through this journal, so I'm both impressed and grateful to see this.

I really can't stress enough that I'm very impressed with this site in the quick progress it has made, as well as how friendly and helpful the moderators seem to be. I don't think that I've ever sen this of an art site, so it's really reassuring to know that you guys are on top of this.

Too often I see sites make strange, unfavorable changes that they stubbornly refuse to revoke or change, so seeing Weasyl staff consider what their users desire is-- extremely gratifying.

And I'd REALLY just like to thank whoever included the group selection feature in the inbox because it's the one thing I was waiting for most.

Thank you so much for your time <3

It's our pleasure, and I'll be sure to pass on your thanks to the appropriate people! A lot of our users tend to express questions, comments, or concerns through their journals, so I make it a point to scout through them to hopefully clear things up. That, or at least let users know that we definitely have our eyes and ears open. Weasyl can't succeed without you guys, so we're giving it our best shot.. :)

        • Link

And, with that, Weasyl gives me more reason to trust in its staff and love its concept

        • Link

Your sense of community here is infinitely better than... literally anywhere I've been online. And the mods really seem to listen, which is like wow. So kudos!

          • Link

We're attracting the right kind of people, I think. :) I've been on the butt end of far too many sites where the staff does not listen, so I'm proud of what we've got going on here, both for users and staff.

Don't you love how on the ball they are to try to fix things and make this place more user friendly.
You obviously can't please everyone but they're always actively updating and working to make this place bad ass. I approve to the staff of this site so much!

    • Link

You guys are great! That's what I love about you guys, you're always on top of things like bam bam bam!

      • Link

It takes a team effort, trust me. xD The devs are just totally kickass; while they're doing the heavy work, mainsite staff like me tries to get the word about there to keep everyone updated. Each part is essential, but props needs to be given where it's due. :3 Thank you for the kind words!

Some people suggested maybe moving some fave thumbs under the "connections" on the right side. Right now it kind looks like they're part of someone's own submissions.

HELLO MOD, I HAVE A QUESTION.

I do kinda get why people would want favorites on their page - it makes it easier to find good art, it's that way on other art sites, etc. But do you think you guys could maybe make it so that we can PICK what sets of thumbnails show up on our page? Because if we're allowed to have more than one now, I know I'd rather have more important things than favorites (like characters). I don't really mind people seeing my favorites on my page, I guess, it's just not my ideal second pick.

Thanks for making such a great site overall, though! I REALLY LOVE this one compared to other art sites I've used. |D It's streamlined and welcoming. <3

      • Link

WHOA WAIT, I just discovered that hiding favorites not only hides them on your page, it hides the tab for them too? I don't like that, and I think it's really going to backfire on what you were originally trying to accomplish here - in desperation to get their favorites off their profile, many artists will end up making them private which... won't help anyone. :C

        • Link

Hi! This is being worked on, as far as I know. That is definitely not the intention. As for your first comment, you'll be happy to know that you're not the first to suggest that, so it's something on the table as it's a good idea. Design decisions are handled by other staff, unfortunately, so I can't make any promises, only relay the feedback I receive. :3

  • Link

Ew I didn't even notice that D: gotta find the option to hide it

  • Link

Someone who actually agrees with me! I don't want my portfolio (which is what Weasyl is for me, above a social site) to show my recently liked furry porn directly underneath my own submissions. Let alone while it's still above all my artist info.

    • Link

And yes, now you know a little more about me. Thanks, Weasyl!

    • Link

Your not alone, so glad they stated it's something they're working on still.

  • Link

i understands your point of view.

Still i know many people actually requested the feature for favorites to be displayed on users frontages. Though it was generally less in a sense of "I want people to see what i like" but instead alongside the lines of "I'd like to see what others folks like, since that's how I've discovered most of the artists I now watch".

It could be argued as well whether they could have been placed elsewhere on the profile page, though.

    • Link

I don't mind it if the person wants it but I'm hoping they figure out a way to implement the ability to hide our favorites off our front page like you can on DA. I'm sure they'll eventually make this place so damn customizable.

I'd be willing to pay a "premium membership" for a lot of the features this site doesn't have yet.

    • Link

I can't say I know anyone that made that request, although I'm not sure I see the desire for it since there was already a tab to view user favorites? I suppose I can see why someone would want that on their front page if in a favorable location, but it still wasn't impossible to view someone's favorites

      • Link

I guess it's more of a matter of instant accessibility. I.e.: the tab is there, but hidden amongst other tabs with the same font and still need to be clicked before users can then see what an users' favorites before finally deciding if any other is worth clicking.

I'd be tempted to say it's really more of a non-artist thing. Then again, I know a big criticism I'd oft seen levied against Weasyl was by non-artists with no interest in posting art feeling the site was really mostly built only "for artists" rather than "for viewers"(themselves).

So I guess that for someone who's purely a "viewer", something like "right on the profile favorites" that can be instantly seen can be an advantage(and especially so since a non-creator otherwise has "nothing" to short on their profile page without clicking tabs).
So I guess it was a concession for those people since I heard some refused to make accounts there because of that reason.

        • Link

Ohhh alright. I can really see how a viewer might really appreciate that feature; that genuinely makes sense.

I still can't wait until Weasyl does make the feature more customizable, though. I don't mind having my favorites on my profile on some sites (such as DA), but the way that Weasyl's profiles are organized, it's really distracting for me to see the two rows of thumbnails. It's almost bothering me on a sort of OCD basis. It was just-- so streamlined and sleek to me before and I'm sad to see it otherwise

          • Link

I figure it'll probably be fine tuned rather quickly. In a way, can't really start fine tuning a feature when it's not implemented yet.

          • Link

Yeah, I don't mind them being on the page period, but... below my submissions? No thanks. :|

Still not gonna hide them though since apparently that COMPLETELY hides them??? :C

  • Link

I and some others I've seen have also made the suggestion there needs to be a clearer design delineation between submissions and favorites and the staff have agreed so there's likely change coming there too. Personally, I love seeing someone's art tastes right out on their profile, as often times people love styles completely opposite to the one they work in and its interesting to get a fuller picture of their perspective.

  • Link

This journal. My thoughts, exactly. However, it was reassuring to hear from the moderator, so I shall resign myself to wait for things to get cleared up. In the meantime, I will be stalking--ahem, watching the comments on this thread. xD Interesting discussion over here.

  • Link

I'm eagerly looking forward to them implementing an option to disable that. I have issue with it for two main reasons [1] I don't like the close proximity and how similar it looks to the tab displaying my art and [2] I don't feel like my favorites should be displayed at all, but definitely not above more important things like my info and prices and whatnot.

  • Link

OH GOD I didn't notice that until just now???

It's not THE WORST but I was fine with it being just a tab, and as I said to he mod above I'd rather have other things show up on my page instead.

THE SECTION REMOVAL TOOL IS GREAT THOUGH AAAAA

  • Link

since there was a favs tab readily available i'm not into this thumbnail stuff. Its clustered looking and i don't like it at all. :C
