So, I've been thinking over this word: Speedpaint.

When I was younger, I found out about these cool things on YouTube called "speedpaints," essentially a sped-up video of the drawing process of artists. Now, knowing people who are professional artists, I find that this term is misleading. "Speedpaint" in the artist's world is basically drawing something faster than you normally would, trying to achieve the same result (or, at least close to it) in a shorter amount of time.

Now that I make YouTube "speedpaints" myself, I often find it difficult to call them "speedpaints" because of it's true meaning in the art world.

I believe that people like me should refrain from using the term "speedpaint" in their sped-up videos unless it really truly was a speedpaint. I propose using a new word.

Now, the word I'm using at the moment now is "Spedpaint." You may be wondering "Well, that's just the same thing, but with one less E." That's true, but, to me, it has an entirely different meaning. To me, "speedpaint" says "I drew this faster than normal!" whereas "spedpaint" says "This is a sped-up video of my drawing process!"

Just wondering if you guys would agree on this word. It's easy to remember, ad you won't have to change much. I think that the professional artists would really appreciate it.

If you have another word suggestion, feel free to say so in the comments.

Thanks so much for reading and I hope you take all of this into consideration.

    Totally agree with you here Kitt. It's confusing as well as misleading if you're familiar with both uses.

      Glad to know you agree c:. I was a bit hesitant to post this, but I feel it's really necessary to let people know that they're been using "speedpaint" wrong.

        Yeah. I'm sure there are a lot of people out there that don't know about one or the other.

    THANKYOU. I hate when I see people run around screaming 'look at this speedpaint!' And I'm like NO. YOU JUST SPED IT UP. Most people just say 'Water painting Sped Up' on their youtube vids. Sometimes it is a speed paint that they spent an hour on (which is a decent time for an actual speedpaint) and just sped it up for times sake, but they'll say that in the description usually.

    I am so happy you know the difference. XD

      Hahaha I just learned the difference not so long ago, actually, but not whenever I see it or accidentally say "speedpaint" when it's really not, it really bothers me. So I kind of brought this up as a way to also make myself stop using the word speedpaint in the wrong way.

      Yeah, I see some people dropping the habit completely, but there's still a large number of people who still use "speedpaint" when it really isn't. So I'm making an effort to remedy that

        Usually the professionals / artists that have a lot of experience / been around longer are usually the ones that don't label them as speedpaints. I've noticed a lot of newer artists are seeing the sped up videos of what originally was a speed paint, and not understanding the difference etc. Again, I am glad you're making an effort to tell people the difference. :D Education is awesome! I can see the desire for a varying word, but personally I just see it as a term with double meaning. It's easy to tell if something is a speedpaint, as in drawn quickly, and a speedpaint, as in a sped up video. I don't really see need for varying terms in that I think they're obviously different and it just depends on the overall context

      I can see where you're coming from, and that's true, I just don't like seeing a lot of people being confused over one or the other (cause in some cases they're both at the same time) and I thought, idk, maybe make it easier owo;

    I can agree with that. I don't look at much of those on youtube or anything, but I know that calling sped-up videos of works in progress "speedpaints" sounds technically wrong, after being used to browsing art sites and knowing what speedpainting is first.
    Spedpaint might be too close and get misinterpreted as a typo, possibly.. so maybe something pertaining to the nature of the video: a recording of a WIP, fast-forwarded. Like.. FFWIP or WIPrec. shrug lol. just my 2cents. :p
