Concept: Sexuality Hashtags by Star_Ringer

In one particular way, it's difficult being homosexual.

And to a lesser extent, it's difficult being heterosexual.

And it is still magnitudes less difficult being bisexual.

And arguably, not the least bit difficult if you're...um...omnisexual? Pansexual? I'm not sure which term is applicable.

I am, of course, referring to finding the kind of sexual content that you are looking for.

I can be looking for M/M, but not M/M/F, or M/M/T, but miss on the M+M, or MxM, or Homo, or Gay. The only place I've ever been where the sexuality tagging was even the LEAST bit standardized was ol' Yiffstar, but SoFurry has made that a bit more liquid.

So, there's a thing I've been thinking about. I doubt it'll ever catch on, but all the same I feel I should document this. Basically, a standardized sexuality tagging system.

This brings up a number of issues that have to be addressed in such a system.

1) Hashtags / Number Sign
Now, #ActualHasTaglol may not work so well, mostly because no one seems to agree on exactly what those hashtags are even FOR. Plus, these bastardizations of the number sign have become so culturally pervasive, there are going to be other things that a hashtag may be used for, such as a character with an actual # in their name, which would just muddy things.

2) Orders and Combinations
Quick! You're a horny straight guy looking for some porn of a guy having sexual relations with a woman! So you fire up a search for M/F. But wait! You're missing out on any pictures that are tagged as F/M! And what if there's a threesome or moresome going on? You probably have to add some wildcards to apply to that! But wait! You don't want any gay stuff in there, so you have to learn how Regular Expressions work and hope that the site has implemented them in tag searching so that- oh, wait, the site doesn't standardize gender and sexuality tagging at all.

3) Arguable Fetishes
There are people who try their best to be thorough. They add any tag they can think of a person looking for on their picture. So they add "sweat" to a picture of a virile male working out at the gym. But a potential fan of this picture has blacklisted "sweat", due to being put off by overt sexualization of sweat, as opposed to simply being present, due to personal tastes and turn-offs. Or you're trying to be descriptive of a picture of a character, who is missing an arm due to some backstory, so you tag "amputation". But there's a fan who would be really interested in this character, but they've been put off after seeing pictures of characters being actively amputated! Surely there must be some middle ground other than trying to pick the exactly correct form to avoid seeing something sexually explicit, as opposed to simply being "present".

So, um. Yeah. What is there to be done about these things?

1) In recent research, I've become familiar with some lesser-known latin characters that have yet to achieve significant internet exposure, such as the currency symbol (¤) which I am abusing for my own attempt at creative purposes. Here's just a short list of a few that I think would be useful for this situation. (They might look really really tiny at the moment)

ɤ - Rams Horn. Because we're trying to specify things that make you horny. Ha. Ha Ha.
ȸ - d b Diagraph. Looks like a dick and balls, or maybe some boobs with a dick between them? I guess?
Ƣ - The Letter Oi. It's vaguely distinctive, and it's just called an Oi!
ʢ - Reversed Glottal Stop with Stroke. Because it looks like you began to try to draw some kind of gender symbol, but didn't finish. So it's ambiguously gendered.

2) Alphabetical. No combinations.
What does this mean? If you have a gigantic orgy where everyone is fucking everyone, and you have males, females, androgynous, intersexed, transgenders, what have you... (again, not sure what exactly the terms are here.) The tags wou would use would be as follows (assuming use of the Oi as the symbol for a sexuality tag)
ƢA - Because there's an Androgynous/Asexual being portrayed in a **sexual **manner. (This one assumes that an Asexual/Androgynous is a being that doesn't really have a gender identity whatsoever, like a tentacle from the void)
ƢF - Because there's a Female being portrayed in a **sexual **manner.
ƢI - Because there's an Intersexed being portrayed in a **sexual **manner.
ƢM - Because there's a Male being portrayed in a **sexual **manner.
ƢT - Because there's a Transexual being portrayed in a **sexual **manner.
ƢA/F - Because there's at least one Androgynous/Asexual having sex with one Female.
ƢF/M - Because there's at least one Female having sex with one Male.
ƢF/T - Because there's at least one Female having sex with one Transgender.
ƢI/M - Because there's at least one Intersex having sex with one Male.
ƢM/M - Because there's at least one Male having sex with one Male.

So you don't have any ƢM/F, because F comes before M, nor do you have ƢF/I/M, or M/I/F/T, because those are covered, and would muddy the water to try to specify that there's a female having sex with a male who is having sex with an androgynous etc etc etc.

3) Now, in terms of trying to get just the right word, this can't really be fixed without some mass education and agreement. But you can still have things like:
ƢFart - Farting being portrayed in a sexual and arousing manner.
Fart - There happens to be a character farting. Probably as a joke.

And this could continue to be applied to a number of other things, preferably trying to keep the tags as concise as possible; if you can slice a letter off without losing the meaning, do it.

Ƣ3 - Three people are having sex together.
ƢOrgy - So many people are fucking, you guys.
ƢTentacle - Tentacle porn. (as opposed to ƢTentacle**s**, or ƢTentacle**_Rape**)
ƢIncest - Paired with whatever sexuality tag you're looking for, this can make tags like ƢBrothers or ƢFather/Son just serve to be further specific.
ƢGore - This picture doesn't JUST have blood and guts, but it's supposed to be arousing in some way. Eye socket fucking, genital mutilation, that kind of thing.

This really all comes down to looking at it and saying "What about this picture might a person be searching for?" and trying to distill that. This also leads into things other than just fetishes, such as species, ages, settings, fanart and specific characters.

WHICH REMINDS ME

USE YOUR UNDERSCORES, PEOPLE

ƢFox_McCloud, not ƢFox McCloud!

(Also if Falco happens to be in the background gasping at the fact that Fox is masturbating, you'd just use Falco_Lombardi, not ƢFalco_Lombardi, cuz he's not the sexual part of the picture.)

But, yeah, this leads to a slew of tags such as
ƢM, ƢM/M, ƢKnight ƢSquire ƢDragon, ƢFox, but also having the non-sexual tags of Medieval, Sunset, Outdoors, Swords, that kind of thing.

So, yeah, I think I've finally gotten to the end of my ramble? But, here, let me give an attempt at a concrete example:
https://www.weasyl.com/submission/297087/daily-double-19-35-1-jon-talbain-nanaki-red-xiii
Using this system, I might tag this picture somewhere along these lines:

ƢM ƢM/M ƢAnal ƢRape ƢDrugs ƢVoyeurism ƢRed_XIII ƢNanaki ƢJon_Talbain ƢGallon
Darkstalkers Final_Fantasy_VII Laboratory Dialogue Story_Progression

Because the second line of items are non-sexual. Sure, you may be looking for some porn that takes place in a Laboratory, or one that has Dialogue, but by searching for one of those with any Ƣ tag means that picture will be necessarily sexual. (That makes sense to me but I'm worried it doesn't to other people.)

https://www.weasyl.com/submission/297135/daily-double-5-26-1-blitz-exile
ƢM ƢM/M ƢBondage ƢAnal ƢLicking ƢFondling ƢGag ƢRaphael ƢRaphael_Hamoto ƢBlitz ƢSai ƢTurtle ƢDoberman Road_Rovers Teenage_Mutant_Ninja_Turtles (<- Could distill that to TMNT?) Crossover Sewer

ƢSai gets an Oi because it's being used as a sex toy, but Boots doesn't because no one's licking or rubbing genitals on them.

https://www.weasyl.com/submission/477774
ƢM ƢStrip ƢJames_McCloud Star_Fox Nintendo

There's just one character, not interacting with anyone else. I cooould add something like ƢPin-up, but I'm not sure if that would necessarily have to have a Ƣ on it? And Nintendo and Star_Fox are settings, rather than describing the entity being portrayed sexually.

Okay, I think I've gotten to the end of my rambling... Um. Questions, I guess...?
