    'sup? :v

Not much, just winding down a bit in the early hours of the morning :o

      And yourself?

      • Link

I went and passed out shortly after my message! Was up listening to olympic hockey all night haha, while working on tickets and such. I have a penchant for browsing journals and striking up conversations, interacting with the community is a lot of fun.

        • Link

I was about to ask about tickets when I realized you're a mod, haha. But also random hello! How have the olympics been going? Haven't paid them much mind this year

          • Link

Haha, well my first job in college was tech support for a bit, before I landed a research position. :P So it might've been something else! I'm mostly just really paying attention to hockey, where everything is playing out in the prelims as expected. Huge USA vs Russia game this coming morning, going to be exciting. Also Plushenko, one of the figure skaters I grew up watching as a kid, seems to finally be done with his career in skating, so that was kind of a big development. Also, just hearing Putin talk about the games is unbelievably amusing.

            • Link

Ooh neat. Though most of the hockey talk went over my head I have to admit, haha. What field do you research in? :o

              • Link

It's fun listening to the announcers have heart attacks, haha!

Used to. :c Well, not so much :c, I'm fine to be done with it. Was in animal behavior/linguistics and learning, which is a fuzzy area of science because it's hard to establish basic rigor. I've got a whole thread about it/ethics of research in general on the forums, if you ever find yourself over that way.

                • Link

Ahh that's all cool to hear! Admittedly I too have not really kept much with with the Olympics (or at all, honestly haha). Don't know much about Hockey either but I hope the USA vs Russia game is good and enjoyable to watch c:

Interesting to hear that you were in that sort of field, though I think I can understand why it would presumably(?) make one uncomfortable with it due to the lack of defined ethics?

How is it being a mod? It always seemed like it would be a pain to me for most places, but I can see the drive and pride in it if you cared much about the place, I guess that's how you tell if someone is a good mod or not right? :P

                  • Link

The game was insane. We took it in an epic shootout. :D People went nuts haha. Gives us a free ride to the quarterfinals, basically, at the expense of Russia.

The ethics in research are actually very rigorously defined, but on a personal level is where differences occur. My eventual discomfort is something I cannot explain publicly, but needless to say I no longer agreed with the direction of the lab. I graduated around that time, anyway. xD

Haha, well, I do take pride in Weasyl, even though I've only been here for little over a month. I really needed a home on the internet, and I got crazy active on the forums here. My circumstance in life at the moment allows me to do whatever I want while I finish recovering and don't have any real responsibilities, so it helps give me a sense of purpose and keeps my work ethic sharp. I think this site has the potential to be big, though, so I'm excited to help out. People also seem shocked that we -do- stuff here, instead of just throwing around our titles in some power-tripping fashion. I feel like when Jay Leno would go randomly deliver pizzas sometimes just for fun, except that I'm a no-name among furries. XD But we have a good staff here, so interacting with them is fun and makes me want to work. :) I've been in situations where I've been yelled at and demeaned as a staff member by higher-ups on other sites, and I can't imagine that ever happening here.

                    • Link

That is very awesome and really just what I was hoping to hear about this site! I was one of the FA exodus-ees, lol. Largely in part because it shocked me at how vitriolic and toxic the people there could be, that they were willing to basically blame victims of rape, for their rape, and say they deserved it. Not some place I want to be. Incidentally was just at a bar watching some of the olympics while a band played, seemed impressive! Except for the skii thing, seems like everybody flubbed that, haha.

                      • Link

It was boiling under the surface for a long time. :P I'm sure Weasyl will encounter its own problems, heck it already has weathered some, but that's part of being something that grows; it doesn't always go your way. The skiing stuff is insane when you realize what they do and how fast they're going.. they are legit crazy haha.

                        • Link

Yeeeeah. You know something is wrong when skiier meets pole and skiier wins, and doesn't even slow down.

                    • Link

Gosh, so sorry for the late reply! Sometimes I just feel super lazy socially and I read something but I'm like "eh ill respond later" for whatever reason, idk I'm just a weirdo, I should be more mindful of not ignoring people. D:

Anyways that's awesome that it was a good game haha, go USA! :>

And ahh I see, I think that is totally understandable and I think it's good that you stuck with your ethics rather than carrying forward, though it was convienent timing it seems :P

That sounds great too, It's good to know the staff has that sort of mindset and has good mods to back them up as well, and like you said, actually do things instead of just boasting about and stuff. I really like that sound of that and if the majority of the mods are like you it seems like they have great mods to back them up too :)

                      • Link

                        It's okay, I get that feeling too haha, I've come back to a conversation in a week's time. Though to be fair, I thought you were sort of just talking to me from two accounts. xD Which is totally allowed here so it didn't bother me, although I think it is two different people. o.o;

Yesss. I was hoping Latvia would upset Canada, but they came just short. x.x And Russia got knocked out of medal contention. So now it's USA vs Canada in one of the semifinals, big big game.

Well, as nice as we try and be, we'll still have things blow up in our face sometimes. To be a part of the staff here, you've really got to show some thick skin and keep a smile at least when you're getting berated. It's only happened once so far for me, so in general I get really awesome responses back from people. I'm still very new, so I haven't met a lot of the old mainsite mod staff, but the senior staff is pretty incredible, and we're a social group. I know it's just being staff on an art site, but I'm meeting some cool people from all over the world, and who knows what kinds of friendships that will randomly just happen by being here? It's exciting.

                        • Link

Lol, nooope. I'm weird like that to carry a massive conversation on someone else's journal. I'm his girlfriend. :P How goes?

                          • Link

Doesn't bother me at all. :v I reply to a lot of journals, but maybe hear back only half the time? It's kinda interesting, but I do enjoy replies and such. I communicate 'cus I want to!

Right now, incredibly sleepy, so I'm probably going to go take a nap, then hop back on here and try to get some decent pictures of Venus in the sky around dawn. Been a rough weekend, but life's rough for everyone, so. Maybe some sleep will help! Yourself?

(Also, fricken' Canada won everything in hockey, blah. x.x)

                            • Link

Aw, sorry to hear that. Hope you feel better! Been kinda tired myself lately, but getting better, heading out for dinner with my dad right now. But it's certainly been a pleasure to talk to you. :> Good luck with taking picture of Venus! Dunno where you are, but I've seen some amazing night time/astronomical photographs and they always awe me. Sadly can't enjoy it too much here because of all the smog and light pollution.
