Don't think so. Not only would it be easy to fake having a fursuit, but I don't believe anyone deserves better treatment. They've been walking to and from the con space for years, what's another?

Why can't fur suiters just book rooms as soon as possible? Like checking in on a flight or getting tickets for a concert?

  • Link

I say it wouldn't be fair.

  • Link

I personally don't think its fair. I believe it should always be a first come-first serve basis and even though its anthrocon, that even fursuiters shouldn't get more privileged then those without fursuits. Plus, as one of the earlier comments mentioned, its easy for someone to say "Oh I have a fursuit" when they don't. How would one go about ensuring that someone who claimed to have a fursuit for dibs on a good hotel actually followed through? If this were a real thing, of course.

It'd be difficult to enforce, and not fair to con-goers who book far along in advance for closer hotels, but thats my opinion.

Nope, why does it matter in the first place?

  • Link

No, I don't think that is fair.

  • Link

Nah. Why would they? They're no higher or lower than any other person (if you disagree, there is another core issue). The people who get first dibs on a hotel should be the people who reserved and paid first :P

  • Link

Sure they should (That was sarcastic by the way, hard to tell by text).

Just another example of "popfur" snobbery. Like the prat that told me Im not part of the fandom. Because I didn't know who Uncle cage was. Well I'm sorry for not living in the USA and going to the same conventions as you.

Sorry not the right place for my personal crap.

no why should they get preferential treatment. If anything staff and event supporters (Do they have supporters at these events? - people who pay more to add more money to the events pot for a few little extras) should get better or closer accommodation. Or as has been said above first come first served.

First come, first serve. Fursuiters already have elevator perks and get special tags. I say that's good enough. And this is from someone with a pricy fursuit on the way.

  • Link

Is almost like going to comicon and assuming you get special treatment for knowing the extended marvel universe

I personally don't fur suit. But considering how thick and heavy they can be, as well as just down right hot, I think yes they should have first choice. It would be easier for them to go to and from their rooms too relax and cool down.

While you're right about the hazards and discomforts of suits, ultimately... The suiter made the decision to wear that potentially cumbersome costume. In essence, they made their bed, so I kinda feel like they should lay in it.

You make a fair point. Since folks like the GOH & the Dealers in 'Dealers Den' would need quick access to their rooms for storing their stuff I can understand that. With that said, maybe those who fursuit, the Dealers Den and GOH should have the main convention rooms first. At least they won't feel exhausted dragging their supplies or walking down the streets in their suits

I'm not a seller and I'm not comfortable with waiting in line for the elevator or going up & down the stairs to my room. So I'm happy taking a hotel and walking a few blocks.

I like the idea but I know it'd never be able to be enforced properly and it'd be way more trouble than it was worth. Since I've suited before for too long before by accident, I know that it is incredibly important for suiters to be able to quickly get somewhere to de-suit, I like the idea of close rooms, however, that IS what headless lounges are for after all. Maybe giving first dibs to fursuiters who are known to suit the whole convention (or a large part of the convention) would work but is again a struggle to orchestrate.
Basically I like the idea but don't think it could ever be effectively enforced.

  • Link

Not at all. It should be first come first serve, in my opinion. If I were a suiter, while I would enjoy special treatment, I wouldn't feel right about it. Honestly, were I not suiting or even there for a convention, I'd be kinda pissed if someone nabbed a room out from under my nose just because they had a costume. But, that's me. Everyone has different opinions, naturally.

I think they should be able to pay extra for the right. A certain number of rooms should be "reserved" for fursuiters, but they have to pay an extra fee to have them, and they should only be available for a limited time. Then they revert back to the general room "pool."

Basically I think fursuiters should be treated like dealers because they are a key part of the convention experience, but if they want preferential treatment, they should have to pay for it, because just giving them privileges because they are fursuiters leads to exploitation and a feeling of unfair treatment.

I see why it would make sense that Fursuiters get first dibs-- but at the same time that's just slightly unfair for those who can't afford and don't want to have or wear a fursuit. :T That and...people could just lie and say they have a fursuit just to get their sign up done. LOL

  • Link

Despite it making sense that a fursuiter might have need to go and take off their suit fast because of it getting too hot, I think it should be first come, first serve.
It's your own choice if you want to wear a suit or not.
Everyone should have an equal chance to get a room in the hotel/closeby, the con isn't just for fursuiters but also other patrons.

  • Link

It depends on the con. If it's in a community that is accepting of furries, then no, they don't need it. But if there's ANY chance they might be attacked or something for walking on the street to the con, then fursuiters should be allowed to sign up like... a month or so before anyone else.

Just so they don't get their suits ruined or something.
