Welp, my PS3 died..AGAIN :I by Rooc
We thought it just overheated but nope. Left it alone for a week or so and when we try turning it on it starts up for a second, then a red light followed by 3 beeps, then it turns off.
It either needs a reboot or a good cleaning, both of which we don't know how to do. We do have a game place so we're gonna see if they can clean it and hopefully that'll fix it.
Or it's the motherboard and in that case I am done with 1st gen PS3's and will be getting one of those thin ones. Damnit.
I just want to play video games :/

Same here D: I just got this one when they went on sell last year and it's barely lasted. So frustrating ;o;

Ahhhh the fat PS3s.
I've had quite the experience with those. They seem to have a lot more hardware issues than the slim. I've had my slim for about 3-4 years now and it was passed down onto me, so it's been around for a while. No issues with it yet. It doesn't overheat as bad as the original if it even overheats at all~ c:But the old 1st Gen PS3s we owned all suffered harddrive failure, or overheat issues and eventually we just stopped getting them. They're great since they play PS2 games (which the slim doesn't BUT it does play PS1 game discs which is awesome), but I don't think it's worth the amount of trouble that seems to come with them~

Well I guess it's comforting to know that it's not just me - I'm prolly gonna give up and buy a slim since it seems like the better choice, even if I'm not so fond of 'em. They're cheaper now since the PS4 is out (me and my friend are gonna go halfies on one this summer) but eh, otherwise the games I have are useless ):

I've played my old Spyro PS1 discs on it~ c: I have no idea why it supports the PS1 discs and not the PS2, but they work! >w<
The slim isn't as "pretty" as the original, but it will most likely last you MUCH longer~ >w<

I was so upset when my first gen PS3 died. I was like, "WAIT A MINUTE!! This isn't an Xbox, this isn't supposed to happen? I never hear anything about this!?" and eventually went out and got a second gen one (slim). I think it's friggin ugly and I hate it... but it still works! Don't remember how long ago that was, but it was when 3D Dot Game Heroes came out, and I absolutely needed it replaced before that arrived. So yeah, I guess the first PS3s are crap. It's a real shame to because I just love them aesthetically.

Ugh seriously took the words right out of my mouth! Xbox had the red ring of death and apparently the PS3 has the three beeps of death. Go figure. But the slim ones are indeed ugly and I just..do not want one, but dangit both my first gens pooped out so I guess I'll deal. Bah. I just want to play my games.

No way, I had the EXACT same thing happen to me last week. Search YouTube for the YLOD hair dryer trick. It's only temporary, but gives you a way to at least salvage your saved games.

It was just unexpected. Last week my friend played a game for 5 minutes then it just shut down and it hasn't been on since :/ It's such a bummer. I'll give that a look though! Thanks~

nnooooo ps3 waaiiiiii
mine freaks out and goes uber fan on me sometimes and confuses the crap out of me. seriously freaks me out cause it sounds like its havin a heart attack (and i just got the damn thing last year x'D)
here's to hoping a cleaning will help.
