MY THRILLING HURRICANE SANDY/DURRFRIGHT VENTURE by Ben

Oh boy oh boy was this ever a ride and a half.

So, I ended up going to a convention last weekend in Connecticut for my birthday, and so I could also film a music video with BABY TRAP BEAT$. I gave the wonderful gift to myself of walking around a hotel dressed like a belligerent white lady, and I'm currently in the process of editing the video. Unfortunately, between the terrible security presence, 4am fire alarm, being the only convention that will try to artificially impose an attendance cap, and then close pre-reg super early so the only choice is to show up and hope you get a slot or be forced to ghost, I'm not sure I'll be going back next year (also, the location is just generally uninteresting. Move that shit to the city, damn). I had a great time for the most part, but damn, they need to get their shit in order.

However, the part of my weekend I didn't like was getting trapped there for an additional 3 days. DESPITE the storm barely effecting Connecticut and everything northeast of it, Connecticut suspended all bus service until Tuesday, and Greyhound suspended all bus service, regardless of which direction you wanted to head in, until Wednesday. Of course, this didn't stop them from selling tickets for busses that they already knew weren't going to run. Classy as heck.

Perhaps the only upside to this whole mess is that, I managed to score a 475 dollar US Airways voucher, as the plane I ended up booking to get back to Philly (since going through NYC right now is like punching your way through Lindsay Lohan's shame) was too small, and I got downgraded to a different flight. So, at the very least, I can head over to the west coast in January and not have to worry about travel expenses. So, I guess between that, eating fish grinders in the hood of Hartford, and spending some time with Al at the hotel before we got the hell out of Cromwell at the very least, getting stuck in Connecticut for a whole week wasn't so bad.

I think.

Seems like it would have been a bit rough. I can't stay home right now, obviously the hurricane affected my area badly, so I'm up in PA.

And you almost got to go to Maine.

Furfright was probably the weirdest con experience I've had because of the hurricane and everything else. I'm kinda glad I headed home early.

It really was. I don't regret going because of how unique an experience it was, but I just can't see a third trip there being super interesting. GOT BIG SHIT TO TOP HERE
