Being a Roommate with Strangers, A Rant List by Yani Cat

So, it has taken me 3 years to now fully understand that I am incapable of being a roommate with people I don't know very well. I have lived with 3 different kinds of roommates:

Type 1: Antisocial, Room Sharing, No Kitchen

Benefits:

I never have to see your faces ever again
Quiet
Always dark in the apartment
No food stealing worries
Nobody uses the living room

Negatives:

So... who's buying toilet paper again? (solved after we all agreed to buy our own everything)
Sleeping on the couch so I can do what I want late at night since living room always free and not to bother my real roommate
Nobody to talk to
Laziness lead to no cleaning anything and it got pretty gross

Type 2: The "I'm stuck with a bunch of friends who aren't open to making friends with some weird quiet girl", Kitchen, Room Next to Living Room

Benefits:

None. I can't think of a single benefit.
Oh wait, we had a kitchen.
Learned I hated loud people I didn't know who didn't invite me to have any fun too cause I refused to be that awkward guy.

Negatives:

Give us money to spend on supplies for the apartment.
We had to help pay for the living room tv in order to use it and I refused to do any such thing
Living with a vegetarian who went vegan made the kitchen smell burning plastic a lot
Living with those girls who shed like wooly mammoths and refused to clean their hair out of the drain made me want to puke.
The. Kitchen. Sink.
After a while the roommates didn't care what made me angry anymore and loved to be ridiculously loud when I was trying to do my homework.
I think they knew it bothered me so they did it a lot since they disliked me.

Type 3: Really Nice, Super Fun, All a Mask, No Respect

Benefits:

Living room is clean and kitchen is kind of clean
That comfortable feeling
Apartment smells like good food, sometimes offered food
Considerate most of the time

Negatives:

Friend grouped out again
No respect for my things despite saying they will be respected
No room in fridge or freezer
Dish drying rack is home for dry dishes and nothing gets put away
Paper thin walls allows me to hear me being talked about behind my back
Laziness in the bathroom

So, I had a mini fall out with my current roommates over the dishes I brought. In my tired anger, I took my stuff back into my room because I was sick of cleaning the caked food off of my stuff since they would sink it and be 'too busy' to clean it. It is most certainly my fault for this fall out because I'm terrible with words and I've heard enough of my weirdness being talked about. Sorry I'm a weird OCD in the kitchen kind of girl who is graduating this semester so I've been super busy. I'm never home and refuse to pay for things I don't use anymore. I'll provide for myself. I'm tired of living with people I just can't click with, I'm sorry I don't feel comfortable enough around you to actually sit out there. Different majors, different homework, few things in common outside of school, kind of difficult to interact. I close my door so you don't have to hear my music or me talking to my friends and boyfriend on skype. It's just how it is... From these experiences I refuse to live with anyone I don't know very well in the future. Yay uncomfortable living environent for the rest of the year yayyyy.
