Friend Requests and how to handle them... by Tyrnn

Hmm. I'm not sure just what the difference is between 'friend requests' and 'followers'... I'm tempted to keep the Friend Requests to personal levels with folks that I know and have either met in Real Life or have known for a long time on chat programs, but I don't want to feel like I'm excluding anyone or anything either. What do you do with Friend Requests that makes them any kind of special? Is there any reason why I shouldn't just open them up freely?

What /I/ do personally is accept or try to add people to my Friends List if I have them on Skype or talk to them regularly.

Just keep it to people who are actually your friends. People on that list may receive special submissions and journals from you that others can't see, if you want.

A friend is a friend. It can seem like a tough decision to make when you don't want to seem aloof or unkind, but I think the distinction ought to be a simple one and people - especially those slinging around friend requests as though a checkbox on a website is a binding social contract - ought to be more conscious of that.

Ransom's right on this one. You can mark submissions and journals as friend-only. So you probably want to limit it to friends.

When it comes to friend requests, and that's just me anyway, I would actually do them for the people I have known for a long time, whether it's IRL, or online, or both. Again, that's just me. If you have any preferences of your own when it comes to doing friend requests, I completely respect your decision.
