Hmm. I'm not sure just what the difference is between 'friend requests' and 'followers'... I'm tempted to keep the Friend Requests to personal levels with folks that I know and have either met in Real Life or have known for a long time on chat programs, but I don't want to feel like I'm excluding anyone or anything either. What do you do with Friend Requests that makes them any kind of special? Is there any reason why I shouldn't just open them up freely?
A friend is a friend. It can seem like a tough decision to make when you don't want to seem aloof or unkind, but I think the distinction ought to be a simple one and people - especially those slinging around friend requests as though a checkbox on a website is a binding social contract - ought to be more conscious of that.
When it comes to friend requests, and that's just me anyway, I would actually do them for the people I have known for a long time, whether it's IRL, or online, or both. Again, that's just me. If you have any preferences of your own when it comes to doing friend requests, I completely respect your decision.

What /I/ do personally is accept or try to add people to my Friends List if I have them on Skype or talk to them regularly.
