One of the things that did bug me early on was not being able to set a feature image. BUT! Today I found out you kind of can but its even better. I discovered you can set a featured image by setting a folder (or multiple folders) as featured folders, which means that the "Featured Image" would pull art from those folders, instead of it just being the most recent upload. So now we can have specific images rotating as featured images! :D I haven't made a designated folder for just featured images just yet, but I might do that down the road.
Anyways, here's how you do it, in case you weren't aware:
Click "settings" up on the right corner near your icon.
Then go to "Submission Folders"
Scroll all the way down to where it says "Edit Folder Options"
From there you can go and set each folder you want as featured by clicking the first check box.

I can't even remember where I initially ran across it. Someone was telling someone else about it and I was all.. wait.. WAIT. OMG ITS TRUE! Fairly sure I exploded a brain cell or two in the process. (I love organizing things more than is necessary.)

I know, it's awesome, right? :D I love being able to feature a folder or a few instead of just one picture. I can set it to show off my best work from my commissions, so people see my good stuff when they jump onto my profile page, and not the stupid sketches I decided to upload on a whim from my stream the other day. xD

I feel better about uploading older stuff too. I haven't made one yet, but I'm thinking about making a folder for archived work that I still kinda like, but not enough to want to have displayed prominently.

Agreed! And it wouldn't hurt to make an archive folder, I think. :3 With the folder options, I've found it's really easy to justify putting up most everything I like in some way, even my older material. It was nice to be able update my account with a good hundred and some of my favourite older pictures without swamping my watchers with notifications, or having old stuff push down all my current stuff. I've never really had the need to "update" a new gallery before, but I realize now I really appreciate having the option. x3

Yes this! Since you can also set a folder not to be displayed in your profile or submission page, I've been thinking too about uploading my older stuff.

Only problem is, I can't put a piece in more than one folder, so I have to choose if I'd rather it be 'Featured' or in the medium-specific folder it's in now. Boo. Hopefully they're working on that!

It would be nice to have that option! Or maybe to set individual art into the feature rotation.

Yeah like a checkbox in the submission info or something would be rad. Wouldn't add too much code I don't think. I have hope for this place though! They seem to actually care about us.

oh, and FWIW, you might consider requesting a featured submission, well, feature. Supposedly the dev team here is very responsive.

Yeah, I was sad when Nabyn didn't really take off but then this place didn't seem to be taking off at first either. It is nice to see it doing well though. I like having another gallery option that gets traffic!

Can also adjust the settings for a folder so its contents don't show up on the front page of your profile at all, like for sketches and scraps and whatever else. They're pretty responsive when we leave suggestions.

I haven't put up any sketches yet, but I plan to do that whenever I do. :)

I really like the folders ability too, it helps quite a bit.
