Folders, Thumbnails + An Idea by Vera

I has them.

The folders option has really encouraged my compulsive organizing tendencies; I've been working far too hard on these thumbnails haha. Apologies to those who aren't into gore, vore etc, but hopefully the thumbnails will give enough warning that I won't lose watchers over sharing it with those who do like it!

Also, just an idea, but I think it'd be cool if you could submit one image to multiple folders. I have way TOO hard of a time trying to decide what to put where. I want to have a commissions folder and be able to put ALL my commissions there, but I'd also like a separate folder for plushie stuff where I can put ALL my plushie stuff. So, for example, a plushie commission could be found in both those folders! Kinda like dA's folder options, I guess.

That said I am really loving Weasyl and hope people continue to use it. I'll continue uploading recent art as well as some exclusive stuff here, and some old stuff in-between, hopefully without flooding your inboxes too much. :P I'm sure most of you are busy as I am, sorting and uploading and whatnot, but I appreciate greatly the comments you guys are taking the time to leave for me. ;u; <3

    That would be so fantastic!

I really love Weasyl as well. Both the Folders and Character submissions are super convenient and awesome, and the fact that you can favorite characters and journals!

My understanding is that the admins/mods/etc only pay attention to the Forums for site requests and feature suggestions and the like. As for folders, I really think they only benefit the artist or person with the gallery - from the perspective of a watcher I've seen no actual purpose or use for them - all images you submit wind-up in people's watch lists regardless of the folder. For someone just coming in to view your stuff for the first time, I suppose they may serve some purpose, but again if they're just looking at your normal gallery then the folders are ignored.

Yeah I like the organization of it, And if someone notes me with (which happens often) "are you open for ___ themed commissions/do you have examples?" I can simply link the folder directly without having to go through my whole gallery linking individual submissions. :3

Ohh woow! I have the same with organizing my folders, sometimes I get to the point I cant choose where to put them. It would be indeed a nice feature to have them in multiple ones!

I also like to add, that I find it inconventient when U use sub folders for example you have 2013 and in that folder there is folder 1, folder 2, and folder 3, but when u go to the parent folder 2013 it shows an empty folder rather then showing all files from these sub folders. I hope they will fix that in the future, but I am sure more ppl already said that too ^_^

I love the folders option too! Is there a folders option for faves? That's one of the biggest problems I have with faving stuff on Fa, Imgur, wherever. I want to find that fursuit mask I really loved one time, but its buried under all of my /horrible porn/

As I said on your profile page, I love your thumbnail warnings an wish more artist used them.

I agree with the multi folder thing too and the folders for faves.

i might be reading this wrong, it's early and i apologize if that's true ;o; but you can do that i think? at least you can make subfolders...or you at least used to be able to. the one i made still works, so i assume you still can? like you make a commissions folder which has everything, then make a sub folder in that folder just for the plushie stuff (or whatever), i have a commission folder with a subfolder for just adult stuff. i forgot how i did it, but i can't try making another one to figure it out again if you wanted.

oh i just read the comment above that mentions subfolders. to my understanding it's best to make the parent folder first (this is what i did) so that way you have all the pictures uploaded there. THEN make the subfolders and choose which pictures from the parent folder to put in there. this is how i did it and my parent folder does have everything in it and the subfolder just has the adult stuff. it doesn't move the picture to the subfolder, it copies/links it (not a real copy, but hopefully you know what i mean!).

my biggest problem still is collections. i want to be able to just put stuff in my collection without having to bother or count on people...and it'd be nice if i could organize them. this is why i have such a hard time moving over here >.< plus the people who feel the need to tell me i've broken some kind of rule...when i havent >.< /siderant

ok i "lied" unknowingly. i see what they are talking about the subfolders now. problem with having a tiny sample on my end. when i clicked submissions i assumed that was my "commissions" folder, but then i clicked just that link and yeah i guess it does actually move those pictures to the subfolder.

so never mind on that part! but it could at least be helpful when trying to get all your commissions in one place still. they'd just have to click every category to get the full experience. >.<

so yeah it'd be nice to have pictures linkable from parent to subfolder!

      • Link

Naw I know about the subfolders, I was just thinking it would be nice to have the same image in multiple different folders, but when you click it, it still goes to the same thing. I want to keep as few folders as possible and just have the ability to, say, put a commission of an invertebrate in both my commissions AND invertebrates folders :3

        • Link

yeah i know what you're talking about. i thought it did that...but i just had a dumb ;o; so yeah i agree, i very much wish this was a thing :C

I would love to be able to put things in several folders too O and I am so thrilled you're here since I'm using this as my main place to hang from here onward.

I like this idea, cause half my warcraft stuff is in my "old submissions" folder, but i'd like to also have a warcraft folder for all that

  • Link

I haven't tried the folders yet since I've only uploaded one thing so far, but I'd assumed they let you put the same thing in multiple folders. Yea, that seems essential. (I also obsessively organize)

  • Link

That was exactly what was irking me like there's no tomorrow. I wanna be able to separate art by who drew it (me, commissions, gifts, collabs, whatever), by medium, and by who is drawn there (also, if more than one character is, I want to be able to stuff it into both folders). I know that tags are KINDA what's meant for that, but that's TOTALLY is not the same... I can't make a page with bunch of tags and have them show respective art in my gallery when clicked...

And I dunno. For me, something working halfway is worse than not at all.

This is a great idea! It's actually been suggesting through the forums (I'd type a little more but class is about to start.) If you'd like to see more suggestions, you can find them here: http://forums.weasyl.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?1003-Common-Suggestions-List

If you have any more suggestions or ideas, feel free to post in the thread, we're always excited to hear from our users!

Oh, thanks! I'll try and remember that. I never have used forums on an art site but I'll try and get over my shy-ness haha ^.o

I liked it when FA basically broke the custom thumbnail functionality for everything but the mini gallery on a users page. Having thumbnails showing a tiny chunk of the image or just the same stock warning is not terribly useful for anyone browsing a gallery full of them.

  • Link

I'm with you on wanting to put a single image in multiple folders. I have a lot of art that I've done for friends that also includes my own characters, so I stick them in my 'Art for Others' folder, when I'd rather have them in my 'Art for Others' folder and my 'Featured' folder, for example.

  • Link

Really, since they already have tags for all submissions, they could just roll that into the folders system. That's what you're really saying when you want to put a picture in multiple places anyway - "it belongs in this category AND that category" :p

  • Link

Yeah, I like the way InkBunny handles organization. It's similar to Gmail in terms of labels and being able to apply multiple labels to a picture (or pool instead of label, in InkBunny parlance). So I usually just put everything in my main folder unless it's something I feel should be kept separate, and let the fact that there are tags, tag filtering, and searching do the rest.

I love the folders option too...folders and making lists are my fave calming things to do :)
