I know this site is super new to a lot of you, and no doubt pretty dang confusing! I am by far no pro with it, but I really love it so far, and hope to help others joining in any way I can!
First off, I would really like to share this link, that provides some really useful information--much thanks to noiserut!
https://www.weasyl.com/journal/24682
Second, I would highly like to stress anyone who has joined Weasyl, please put yourself in this database:
http://projects.weasyl.com/soft/
This way, not only can new users better find you, but also help YOU find people you wanna follow here, as well!
Third, with small edit: I would like to suggest people check out fancyowls tip journal, as well! It has some great info and links I've missed! : )
https://www.weasyl.com/journal/24895
All that out of the way, I would like to maybe suggest some tips/ideas to those who would like to help build up the Weasyl userbase. I understand many people legitimately want to leave FA, for good. But that is a very very hard thing to do if you need money as an artist, and even harder if people can't stick with it. 8(
First off, please do not harass, pester, or badtalk anyone who does not wish to leave FA. I haven't seen this yet, but I also do not want to see this. I've already gotten/seen nasty comments for people willingly choosing to leave that site, so please lead by example and don't give it back.
I am 100% for making this place work and build up. I have been really tired with FA even before this recent stuff, and have been considering look for a new art site to frequent as a home base for a while. I'm sure I'm not the only one, either! If you feel the same, work with me here! Let's really make Weasyl work guys! : ) /fistpump
P MUCH ANYONE ON THIS LIST, OF COURSE. THEY ARE ALL FREAKING AMAZING HOLY DANG!: https://www.weasyl.com/following/jotaku
But a few I would especially like to suggest, as just generally really huge sweeties as well as stellar artists:
Artists Suggested by others (check them out as well! : D):
Any suggestions to add? Artists you wanna show off?
MAYBE STUFF YOU JUST REALLY LIKE ABOUT THE SITE! :D
Throw them down below! <3
And lastly, thank you to everyone who has given me a really awesome experience here thus far! /kisses for all
Ah I've talked to some people who are really hesitant and negative about Weasyl, without really trying to approach it with a positive attitude, and I think that is a shame!
A site is as good as its community, I think... And I would really like to put forward an example of making it great, and attracting people to stay! ^V^
I can't help but agree. On FA I always felt too intimidated to talk to people much, but this site already seems so warm and welcoming. I'm even posting on the forums. ;u;
I too have run into a lot of negativity about the site, especially from the folks who are a bit butthurt about people leaving FA for it. I kinda hope they'll loosen up and maybe even come join the community over here someday.
I must admit some I hope don't join Weasyl at all;;;
Especially those who tend to respond with 'lol love the drama /eats popcorn' type mentality.
But there are a lot of reluctant users I really hope can maybe someday be persuaded!
I understand about not speaking up much... I never had that trouble with FA, but I feel like that on dA a lot. It's just so big, I don't even know where to start to try and make any sort of social connection with people there.
All bow down the mighty post of the Jotaku
But seriously, this is really cool! We need this attitude to be infectious!
/sobs thank u/////
You're amazing as well!! uvu
and uwahh those are some really good suggestions! The exclusive content one really sticks out to me and def gonna try that out in the future ;v;
as for showing off
I'm gonna namedrop my bab
who has a kickass, unique art style and is all around just a darling <3 <3 <3
WOOHOOO GONNA HAVE A BLAST ON WEASYL AYYYYYYY \;v;/
YES absolutely :D:D I for one am planning to do everything I possibly can to make this site more attractive to watchers! And the community on this site is so nice right now -- small but friendly <33
This is a great journal, thank you for posting it :D
I don't know why, but I feel really resistant to using Weasyl more. Like I associate Weasyl with the SJW hate-blog FurryScumbags even though as far as I know they're not affiliated in any way except the blog liking Weasyl more than FA.
Ahhh I don't really know anything about that blog?
But Weasyl isn't exactly a furry site, either. It's not presented as one, anyway.
I think any connections are coincidental, like you said. And a website is definitely what it's community make it into. If you want it to be a better/safer/more likeable place, help make it that way! Y'know? : )
I just remember that this blog, which some furries are citing, is really toxic. It's like a reverse version of Stormfront. It accuses Wolfy-Nail of being a possible rapist for his rape porn, it says that anyone who still likes Renard's music is a "rape supporter" because he allegedly sexually assaulted someone, it accused a fursuiter in a kimono of racism due to "cultural appropriation" and it claimed that herm porn was transphobic for "fetishizing transgendered people" and such.
Even if you are totally against Zaush, I strongly recommend to not heed what FurryScumbags has to say.
I know it's irrational, but I have this association in my mind between Weasyl and that hateful vile blog.
I have this feeling that if I use Weasyl I'm letting these hateful trolls win.
People need to know that you can't fight racism with anti-white racism, misogyny with misandry, homophobia with heterophobia, and transphobia with cisphobia.
Weasyl is an independent group of individuals that wanted to make a gallery space for artists who wanted something others sides didn't.
That tumblr is made by another individual who may endorse weasyl AND host content you don't agree with, but otherwise is not in control of Weasyl.
It's ironic that you list all these "we aren't all xyz because the author of this work we like has done abc" but you're clearly doing "this site has been mentioned by abc so I will lump it with the title of xyz". It's a real disservice to the people that made and funded this project from the start because of what other people that you don't like promote using it. Decide for yourself honestly but this topic is REALLY derailing the original journal topic 6-6a
I will keep those things in mind, though, thank you
But I also think Noiserut makes some good points too.
I understand having those connections, and not being able to entirely erase them, and also feeling that associating with this site is somehow supporting those people. I also don't want to belittle this view in any way, but it's true I highly doubt any actual connection.
I mean, ina way, the same could be said about being weary of this site, y'know? Cuz then you're letting someone uninvolved influence you in a negative manner. Of course, whether or not you feel comfortable here is completely up to you. And if you don't like this site much, that is totally okay!
But I would try to separate them if you can, and try to view this site freshly. See if any of its users or staff promote anything you are hating from this blog, before letting it stop you from participating.
Thanks for the links and artist suggestions! I've been on here for a while, but haven't really explored much yet. Least this will help get the ball rolling, I hope.
All in all, welcome!~ X3
Silently adds the appreciation for actually being able to upload things once without the quality being thrown into a gutter.
Weeps openly thank you so much for the feature, and this journal has a really positive attitude that I think I needed! Although I'm one of the people who doesn't want to completely leave FA, I'm 100% fine with updating just as frequently on Weasyl. I've also been considering making a batch of adopts solely for weasyl!
Again, thanks for this journal and mention ;___; KISS KISS
/slides back in
It could be a good idea if somebody made a sort of Weasyl Quick Tips journal that teaches folks how to link to artists on other websites as well as making icons for THIS site appear! There's an easy to find Markup Guide on the site itself but a lot of newcomers might not know where to look for it, so giving them a few handy basics could be a good jumpstart!
I have to agree with Worry up there, about always feeling too intimidated to talk to most artists. ;A; Because yeah. It can be hard to get into a network on a big site. Especially when you aren't up to snuff in the eyes of the community (skill wise). lol
But thank you for the journal. And definitely things to keep in mind. I admit, I've been more talkative on here lately, than any other site. It's really refreshing, as I'd almost forgotten what it's like to join a site and actually connect. Instead of hiding off in my corner, and hoping someone notices me. lol
Ahah, oh man, if you think FA was bad to get connected to people you should try dA;;;; @w@
But this is definitely a plus to a small community. And I think if you get involved WHILE it's still small, it helps you out a great deal later down the line if/when it gets bigger, too! :D
Oh I know too well about DA. But, when I first joined DA, I was really active and talkative. And ended up making a lot of friends over seven or so years on my first account. xD When I made my second account, I was much more quiet, and mostly kept to myself. And I learned that, you don't get as many connections that way. But I didn't ever really make an effort to change it. 8| I guess just because of feeling stagnant.
I totally agree though. When the community is small, it's the best time. And it does help in the long run. C:
I think dA has just become sooo much harder to connect in over the past few years, too. By trying to make it more 'fair' to its users with groups and whatnot, I think it's actually made it harder in some ways too!
@w@
Oh, I can totally agree with that. Somehow it's EXCEPTIONALLY harder to get a talkative watcher-base. Let alone a tiny, itty-bitty fanbase. lol
Unless you draw anime. It's somewhat easier if you do that. But, while I still borrow a few things from my anime days (I just like doing over sized eyes), I'm not... really an anime artist anymore. lol I like it. But not what I enjoy drawing. Dx So, since my style is a little 'weird' for some people.... wellllll. lol
Add: post on weasyl a few days (or more) before you post to FA and remind people in the comment of that submission that you are doing so
Add: post cropped thumbnails advertising they can see the full version on weasyl
Love the positivity. I only migrated over a couple of days ago but I think my favourite parts of Weasyl so far are how friendly everyone seems to be, how easy it is to find artists I hadn't heard of before and especially the layout of the site. It's without a doubt the most aesthetically pleasing art sharing site I've ever come across, which I personally think is important given that it is an ART sharing site haha. Very pleased that I found your work and decided to follow :)
Oh man, I'm so happy to hear about your positive experiences! I hope this site can continue to remain a good place jfkdsj;ld
I have to admit, I've only started using it recently (picked it up again with the whole FA trouble), but I'm glad I have so far. The layout is pretty nice too, I definitely agree!
I always spam people with :teakitsuneicon: since she does such beautiful work
BUT YES. LET THE LOVE FOR WEASYL FLOW
ahaha oh hun, you almost had it! Just typo'd it in the end there with a } instead of )
teakitsune
/double pistols and a wink
This is really helpful coz even though I like the site it's pretty lonley and im in dire need of funds and unsure of gettign commissioners :P
Yeah that's the downside about things right now... And this is why no one ever leaves FA! It's a total catch 22, and it really needs people actually TAKING a risk with this kinda thing, and holding their breath it turns out in the end. But that's scary business, and it could really hurt if it fails. 8(
But idk, I think it's worth it. FA doesn't deserve our business, to be frank.
Yesss I'm all for making Weasyl more active, it's an awesome place with good mods. I'm making this place a main gallery of mine. (Cause I barely go on DA anymore lol). And if FA keeps sucking ass...well it'll probably become just as popular as FA cause everyone will boycot them.
FA will always suck ass. Five+ years of nothing but ass suckery, it's P DANG CLEAR it's gonna stay that way.
I think there is a really good opportunity of this site pulling through happening right now. It's up to us to see if it happens or not, though!
OMG you put me in there WEEPS I have nothing in my gallery yet.... BUT I WILL dksjklgljksdgjdsg you're such a sweetheart though ;w;
Ahaha thank you so much for making this journal. QwQ This is totally helpful! And I def plan on sharing it once I get off my phone and to a real computer.
But I would love to just drop a couple friends names here for people to maybe see? >u>
and who currently has an empty gallery here due to just joining today, but people can check her FA under the same name and see her gorgeous work until she adds it here, as well. C:
But again, thank you for making such a helpful journal and I really hope more people will come here and bring their watchers too. ;u; This site just has so much potential, and FA is just... rolling faster and faster down hill. UnU
This is wonderful information q v q <3 So glad to see something like this in my journal box. I'd totally love to network with some of the other artists but I've had a long standing fear of talking with people who already have a ton of friends or are artists I look up to. I'm aware that a lot of peeps are probably honestly sweet and down to Earth and approachable, but I've always been intimidated to talk to other artists ; v; kinda has to do with my introversion as well... ( I have a hard time starting conversation with people that small talk with me or don't ever really talk to me )
Maybe I could give it a chance but I don't know how many people I could actually start with x v x ;; I'd love to do art trades too...
My biggest problem moving from FA is the commissions-base issue (as all of us artists seem to be concerned about) but I'm hoping it looks up soon (which it might). I've been on this site a while but its been rather difficult to get my stuff out, noticing I get at most like 3 views or something...But I am pretty hopeful and I'm wishing to establish some stable ground here as well v
;;
I'm also kinda curious how the RPing community is here since I've got a group Roleplay/RPG in the works. I haven't announced it yet though since I'm trying to keep the posts for daytime, while everyone is awake still (since I tend to be up all the way to 5 am PST). But I've got high hopes as well, I'm hoping my luck doesn't up and leave me again ;v;
Anyways if you read this, thanks for bearing with my wall of text ;;
I can totally understand your hesitancy! But, y'know--no one has a friend limit cap or anything like that. I think everyone would like more friends. Some are a bit more hesitant to make friends right away, but others will grab on to you and tug you along with them right off the bat. It is definitely about trying to comment and connect and put yourself out there. For example, just by voicing my opinions out on FA, I have noticed I've definitely pulled in more watchers that I can TELL are from those lurking there. Commenting and being active really does help you gain noticed!
And, honestly, no one is gonna be rude or mean or anything like that to you with what you say! (And if they are, man, I'd like to take a chunk outta them cuz nuh uh! >:U )
It's a tough battle sometimes, but being persistent can pay off, too!
But I feel your pain. A lot of people are deciding to be more active on weasyl, or give it priority over FA, though... so I am hopeful that it will slowly build up and get better here. @3@
And man, that sounds pretty cool! I never got much into the RP community after Gaia days, so I can't really say much. I'm sure there would be those interested, though!
Thank you so much for the feature!
I really hope this place becomes as popular as FA! I hope everyone sticks with it because it seems so welcoming so far. This journal is really helpful too!
^^ I SUPPORT ALL OF THIS
seriously, i'v been meaning to find a second art home after leaving FA (got suspended, long story) and this place is definitely a nice inviting community that deserves to grow as much as possible, so i'm more then willing to share all this info to my friends definitely can't wait to see were this site goes
Man I love journals like these! So helpful. I kinda wanna put one up myself, but I haven't a dingdangdarn clue what to say that hasn't been said before. 0:
You could always just share the link to this or any of the other journals shared?
I think some of the information within these journals could definitely use some word spreading! (Ahaha, not trying to sell myself or anything, I think fancyowls' and noiserut's also have really good info worth getting out there.)
just wanted to say a) this is an excellent list and b) fdhahjk you are MEGA SWEET thanks for the plug weh... ;w;
Fantastic list of people and an excellent journal! I'm hoping to slowly migrate over here and hopefully it works out well!
Have you guys been able to determine why the site goes down at seemingly random times? Is it user influx or...? Cause that's something that should be addressed.
You can always check out the site's twitter: https://twitter.com/weasyl
As far as I understand, there was a DDoS attack on the site the other day, it's still having some left-over troubles from that event.
I've heard there were some bugs causing the error pages yesterday, too.
The site is still in beta, of course, so it'll run into those types of things. But from my understanding, the influx hasn't been the source of any of the load time/downage problems. The staff seem pretty confident that the site is holding up with the new users and submissions. : )
Gosh, you are SUCH a sweetie! Thank you for the feature! I'm super honored!
Your enthusiasm for weasyl is very admirable and definitely contagious! I can't wait to get working on mine and see all the beautiful people I get to meet ^^ I'll definitely keep your suggestions in mind. The weasyl-only feature is something I was thinking of doing, too!
I can't wait to see more of your activity here! Big thank you again for sharing this <3
Oh no, I'm sorry it seems to have hid the codes I typed you.
UGH, but you can find them here: https://www.weasyl.com/help/markdown
Yesss I've really only been active on here for a few days, but oh boy it's wonderful! I still need to explore the forums a bit like I wanted, to kind of get my foot in the door there a bit, but even without it Weasyl has such a nice atmosphere! This is an awesome journal, and I'll definitely be going through that recommended artist list to follow ones I haven't been following already. :P
Hello, I'd like to drop a couple names to the list if you don't mind :3
the first is Archidaequiem
then the second is RenonVesir

This is an absolutely fantastic journal. I kind of adore your enthusiasm for Weasyl and I really hope it's infectious.
I can honestly say I love this site already.
