I'm gonna wait until it's out of beta first before I make the move myself :3

    eat my sharts dragoneer

Why are people moving completely? I know dragoneer is a turd but I mean logically this won't have the same scale of people on it for a really long time. FA's been around for YEARS... it'd be the best choice to have an account on both sites, even though most if not all people on weasyl have/had an FA.

If it's just for the sake of attempting to screw dragoneer over well, to be honest, I doubt that enough people are going to do it to make an impact on that site. And honestly there are a lot better things to be protesting today than FA!

Man, plus having a bigger and established userbase like on FA is so good if you want to sell commissions and get plenty of exposure. I think I've gotten more business there than anywhere else just because the niche community is so expansive and the website is well known. Maybe in a few years when Weasyl gains some traction and a bigger community would it be easier to just permanently move here.

Unless you don't care about buttloads of exposure and commissions and just want to share art among a small community and friends until the site gets bigger then go HAM.

I just don't get the same level of enjoyment out of Furaffinity that I used to. It was time for a change, and with the way I find weasyl to be engaging I cant see myself using Furaffinity much anymore as a gallery site. I barely used Furaffinity to begin with. I updated MAYBE once every few weeks or so, and never checked any of my messages anymore. This website is interesting, different and engaging. Despite whatever problems I have with Furaffinity, it was just time to change. I did the same with DeviantArt when I left years ago and I guess it's FA's turn! I'm still going to log into the account to check friends submissions, and other important things, and maybe in the future if there are some decent changes that get me engaged in FA again, maybe I'll go back! However, right now, this is where I've moved! It's not anything overly calculated on my part or anything.

I feel like once this site even gets to letting users give out invites it'll become vastly more popular quite easily. I'd like to think since this site is already an amazing choice for people to come to and use and it has such a nice UI and so many helpful tools for artists that it'll get populated quickly.

and honestly the problem with FA is much more horrible than you depict. none of the staff/admins do their job well, or have a very horrible attitude toward it, and none of the security issues that have been around for yEARS have been assessed. I was told this by someone else, but basically, none of the staff are motivated and now we're just seeing updates of the UI when that's not even the important thing that should be worked on right now.

It's more a case of FA is generally run pretty poorly and this site is doing things already leagues ahead of the other, and all the people working on it care, and things are getting handled quickly and with everyone knowing what's happening, as it's happening.

I am keeping my FA account for now for advertising commissions, but I don't plan to submit there any longer besides for commission information, and to show them this site and probably hand out as many invites as I can to artists once that's available to me.

I totally agree, this site's UI is years ahead of FA. I mean FA is REALLY behind in many ways, in all the ways you stated. My biggest things are:

1- When will the site be free and open to anyone regardless of invites? The sooner this happens, the more traffic it will get.

2- Will this site HONESTLY draw in a crowd other than the current FA crowd? I mean if you think about it, if most of the people from FA move to weasyl, you will still have a smaller population of users than FA ever did. Unless weasyl does something to draw in a broader audience, it's going to be smaller than FA. I think the best place to start would be to stop with this invite shit after the beta is up, and reach out to other communites through DA, reddit. reach out to non-furries too. Though that might be a stretch, honestly I can't see this site being anything but a furry art site.

Open invites (users on Weasyl have 10 invites) begin on the 26th. Beta lasts as long as it takes for all our features to be completely added (including premium features you paid for essentially!) and bugs that beta users are assisting in hunting down. I'd personally give it a few months or more before we are good to launch.

    Yay awesome!!

In time, weasyl can easily surpass FA. I'll be keeping my FA, but for the most part I want to turn weasyl into my primary anthro account. FA's shitty handling of, well everything, is my reasoning for wanting to leave.

  • Link

I've been so done with FA for what seems like forever, and even though Weasyl still has some kinks to work out it's already LEAGUES better. I think I'm just going to quietly stop uploading to FA to avoid inexplicable DRAMA BOMB, though.

    • Link

I dont really see why its a drama bomb if someone makes a personal decision to leave, but then again-

I've been pretty done with it myself for a while, and I'm very impressed with Weasyl and the way they handle their interaction with their users and the way the website looks and feels

      Good place to be!!

      • Link

It shouldn't be. It shouldn't even be a big deal, or an issue PERIOD, but a surprising amount of people think it's a slight against them --the "fans"-- if an artist chooses to leave or relocate elsewhere. I don't get it, but I've already received enough angry notes and e-mails that I know if I made a "leaving FA" journal I'd get slammed. I mean, I shouldn't care, but I just don't wanna deal with that.

Uh, ahem. ANYWAY. Yeah, I like the site a lot so far. It kind of marries all the things I liked about FA and nabyn into one place, and looks and feels about a hundred times better than either of them.

I'm going to wait until the site opens up before I make any kind of big notable permanent transition.
