Hey everyone! I'm thrilled to see the inflow of users to this site, and especially thankful to all of the friends and bat-lovers who are so kind as to watch me!

One thing that I've noticed is that people have not been formatting their text in journals and submissions, since it's not obvious how to do it. Luckily there's a handy guide here! The formatting syntax should look familiar to anybody who posts on Reddit. Also, the most important takeaways are:

Are there other tips that you'd like to share, or things you're wondering about? Personally I wish the syntax for linking to users, images, folders, journals etc. were simpler!

Oh, thanks. I overlooked the guide because the word "markdown" didn't really register as text formatting stuff to me, haha

Reddit also uses Markdown, so most of this should be familiar to anyone who comments there on a regular basis.

Thanks! It's weird using a site that isn't using that bbcode.

Personally I don't like having to remember the difference between :milkandcookiicon: and :iconmilkandcooki: (I'm which is which again?)

The hardest for me is words* instead of [b]words[/b], mostly because I post on several forums that use that format. It's weird getting used to a new thing, no matter how much easier it is.

At least it's easy to toy around with this stuff because stuff you write live previews as you write it!

So there isn't a way to insert images into journals, is there? :/

There is! Prefacing the URL link with an exclamation point means that it's an image link. So where "user:aerys" appears in the last line you can insert the URL of an image file instead.

I thought as much and tried it last night with journal entry, but it didn't work or even appear for five minutes or so, so I deleted it.
Yet, it showed up in the preview below just fine.
