First Journal Post of the New Year by Temperance

Hey everyone and welcome to 2014 :D

Here are some updates from the past and some thing to look forward to in the future:

-Workworkworkwork:

-I'm busy here at Komickrazi Studios, I'm up to my elbows in dragons of various stages of completion, so keep and eye on my gallery for a dragon explosion!

-I have been doing a lot of drawing as you may have noticed. I have finished of the month of the the Draw Every Day challenge. I will be moving all the drawings from the challenge to my scraps section at the end of the week, in case you wonder where they all went. I did like some of the drawings I did, I may "finish" them up with some inks and colors at some point, but in the near future I am busy busy with other work.

-I have a somewhat secret massive project I am working on with some friends... we're keeping it under our hats for now, but we're aiming for a May completion time, so keep an eye out!

-I have 12 Vikings for my army at this point. If you are interested in joining, I will be accepting warriors up until April when I require FULL payment: http://www.furaffinity.net/journal/5205440/

So if anyone got some Christmas money that is burning a hole in their pocket and wants to go to RF by all means contact me!

-Further Confusion:

-FC is coming up soon. I will NOT be doing the masquerade this year. I was very dissappointed with the changes they made to the masq last year so I will no longer be wasting my con time taking part. I'm a little saddened by this, but at the same time I would rather have fun at the con than waste almost a half a day with masquerade nonsense which turns into a lot of hurry up and wait.

-I am considering applying for the dance Comp. It will depend how much time I have between now and the con to finish learning my dance and getting my application video in on time. We will see!

-I WILL have a table at the art show. Yes! A Table! I will be offering a Partial fursuit and a Kigurumi! So if you want a partial at (possibly) a really great price, check out the art show and bid! I will have photos of the partial BEFORE FC, but you can also admire the suit At the con on display in the art show.

-Other stuff

-No more ref sheets for awhile. Sorry everyone, I like doing ref sheets, but I am overloaded with costume work at this time and I do not think I would be doing any ref art justice. If you are already on my queue for ref art, no worries, I will finish up your pieces, but I won't be taking on any new ones for the next few months.

-Other cons: I have been considering a few cons for the future. Right now it looks like my 2014 year will include Further Confusion, Vancoufur, Fur-eh, San Diego Comic Con, Rainfurrest and Midwest Fur fest. I am still waffling on a few cons. I would like to do Biggest little fur con and Furnal equinox, but I may have to wait until next year.

Glad things are going good if busy for you! At least they're not boring!

Having not actually performed in a masquerade before, but been on the tech side a few times, can I ask what all you didn't like about things? I think the first importance is definitely to have fun at a con, but I can also throw things at the Masq organizers if it's something they can fix. =D

Either way, I'm really looking forward to starting the electronics work on my end for our project and can't wait to see the suit side =D

I don't like the new awards system. The Design category basically gives a trophy to someone who didn't sew a stitch of their costume. I personally feel Masquerades are about costume making and workmanship. Showing up and winning an award for something you didn't make is like giving a trophy to someone for bring a good shopper.

In previous years, I respected that as a professional I would be judged harsher and be limited to only a few award options, but I don't like people getting awards for costumes they did not make themselves. I have huge respect for anyone who puts forth the time and money to make their own costume regardless of their skill level.

I was disappointed to see some of the awards were removed. I worked really hard on my performance last year as I was aiming for a performance award, only to find it was no longer being awarded.

I also felt I was pretty poorly treated at the judging stage. I waited around for 3 hours to be judged. I was the LAST person to get judged out of the entire masq. When my turn came up I started to tell the judges how my costume was made only to be told "Oh, I got a good look at it in the headless lounge, you don't need to tell us anything." So I wasted an entire afternoon waiting to talk about my costume only to be sent away without being asked a single question or showing any interest in what I had to say.

The masq was also super rushed. I respect there are other things going on, but the masquerade started late due to a concert going overtime, then we were rushed through the entire show. The whole experience felt like no one was interested and no one was trying and they just wanted to get us over with and out of the way.

I have done the masquerade at FC for the last 5 years, and it was always the highlight of my con experience. Last year was such a poor experience I don't think I will ever take part again.
