The Prophet... or Profit... of the Culture Wars by Tantroo

The Culture War is a facade.

That's all there is to it, because nothing brings in the cold hard cash like unrelenting anger, by getting people to believe their very identity is at stake in some company's play that they're going to take everything away that you hold dear, or that it is the last bastion of protection from 'those people' who are coming to take everything away from you.

It's all as false as the fur in the costumes we furrys dawn.

In a previous journal I talked about my perspective of the Duck Dynasty controversy, and while it may hold true, given the circumstances of Phil's reinstatement and the timing of it makes me see this as something else entirely.

I claimed that two groups were tussling over identity issues, but now that A&E has caved, and at this time of all times, it seems to me this still had nothing to do with a culture war. This instead has to do with something much shallower and less noble then an old man standing up for who he is. All this had to do with was merchandising during the Christmas Season.

It just seems odd, he was suspended on December 18th and reinstated on December 27th? Really? During the lead up to Christmas? I mean, the white poor and religious class typically don't have much to spend, but if it's been proven what they'll spend on is if they believe they's being threatened in some way. They'll have a sit in at Chick Fil'A, if it's anything they'll do, it's buy stuff in protest.

And guess what? It worked!(1)

So Phil and A&E were indeed puppeteers, but it was there was no arguing over the stings, they were in cohorts the whole time...

I'd say well played, but it seems kind of sad that people are so desperate for money these days is that they'd play to people's social sensitivities and raise their blood-pressure to sell a few bits of merchandise. In fact I'd say it's kind of disgusting. If they did do this, they know they did it, and more importantly God knows they did it. And if God despises anything, it's a false profit.
