Call for artists to help by MeaKitty

So I had this idea a few days ago and it's been floating around in the back of my head and won't leave me alone. I have a, well what I think is a unique way of helping to fund my GFM campaign http://www.gofundme.com/4kvb40

What I'm looking for is any visual artists willing to donate a bit of time once each month in order to pool our ideas together to design a unique species of character. Then each artist involved will create a unique character from the species design in any way they choose; create a reference sheet that includes a view of the particular individual's markings, name, background... to give it a little bit of life.

At the end of each month these characters are going to be auctioned off for a price, and part of that will go to covering the artists expenses and the rest will go towards someone in need. For now, selfishly perhaps, that will be my campaign there, but if we can get it going in popularity I want to keep going to help others.

For now, I think the easiest way of doing this is through a group of FurBuy Auctions (or some such similar site if anyone knows of one), and probably asking that each artist sets their own minimum bid, and then just asking that you donate a minimum of 20% to the campaign in question for that month. What you donate over that is entirely up to you to work out based on how much you can afford to give and how much your expenses were for the art piece that month.

Also, once all characters are sold, each bid winner will be given an extra piece of art of their character as incentive. The highest overall bidder will get first choice of which artist they would like to see draw their winning character in a situation of their choice. They'd be allowed to chose from any of us, either the original character artist or someone else, that's completely up to them. The second highest bid winner would get second choice of artist, and so forth down on the line.

Once every 3 months, depending on the popularity of the species we all collaborate to create, we'll design another exclusive species, and a new set of characters just to keep the interest going, and so that we don't get bored with the one design.

This also has the added benefit of helping to showcase other artists works; with the new FA rules stating that you can't spam images and such, this gives you a way to advertise the auctions once or twice a week, by sharing the images of the other artists involved in the project too. You can upload each piece with your own text, as long as you give credit to the artist and even if you put a link to your own Character Auction first, put the links of everyone else's in the text too.

Hopefully by the end of the month you have no only a little bit of cash for yourself, but you've helped someone else in need, and gained a bunch of watchers for your regular art. All for the time spent making a single character reference sheet and a single character art image each month.

If this sounds like something you'd be interested in, please just let me know in the comments, and also feel free to leave any ideas you might have on how to go about this. I'm not sure if it's worth creating a group for this to collaborate all our efforts together, and to give it a bit of recognition as an independant fundraiser. What's your thoughts on that?

Also If you know anyone else that might be interested then pass this journal link on to them. After all, the more the merrier.

It's not much, but I'd love to join in on the project. It sounds like it's a great way to raise money for a very worthy cause. :)

Sweet, thank you very much. I'll add you to the list.

I want to do this but I don't have a tablet yet so I'm stuck to traditional and MS Paint. Maybe in the future- oh wait this was posted over two years ago heh

Actually, thank you for reminding me of this. I actually still have plans for this and would love to have more artists on board. Even traditional ones. If you're interested I might revisit this idea soon as I get a moment to rethink it through.

it's okay, I need to think about it too. I get weird about selling my art in any way sometimes
