Kaokas species information by whitefeather

This species is open! All information has been compiled here as well as kept in a specific file within my own gallery! If anyone wants to share with me images of their Kao's by all means please do! :) Please read through this if you plan on making one! I know it seems long, but it's all the separate journals added together, that's why!

All the current kaos and owners are housed here -

Very basic information: https://www.weasyl.com/submission/281488 , https://www.weasyl.com/submission/281512 , https://www.weasyl.com/submission/281520

I am always ALWAYS taking suggestions on how to improve them! First off I'd like to say the species and it's original idea belong to RiuKoi and kirame19, but was handed down to me after the two of them escaped the internet art scene. I think it's important to put this here, if anything for my own piece of mind.

>> This species belongs to me,and Riu whom reserves any and all rights to it. If at any time we decide, it may be discontinued, closed completely, changed or likewise it is OUR choice. Please respect this right.

>>Yes skull dogs are not "special", but I do attempt to make these guys unique and always work on them.

General Guide lines!

~Kaos are open, please don't ask!

~You may make up to 2 kaos!

~You must ask permission to make adopts so that I may keep tabs.

~There are several types of Kaos, please look through them! They are now all open! If you have a current kao, you may change the type! There are Mains and Subs!

~"Uh, hi. Question, do tamed Kaos still live on the islands in the wild like the wild Kaos? I don't understand."

Tame one's live with humanity or the families they are in charge of keeping/protecting. However, if the bloodline a kao was protecting dies out, the kao may either, move to a new bloodline, or retreat to the island homeland! So it will all depend on what background you give the character!

(This will be updated when we get more good questions)

Kao Lore and History

:Origins:

Kaokas were discovered much by accident, a Vodoo Shamaness in the process of doing what she did best, mistakenly read her spells and called forth a spirit, in order to capture it and keep it in the mortal plane, she bound the spirit to an animal skull. However the spirit took on it's own form. As the shamaness got to know the creature she realized many things. It was tamable, loyal beyond question, and rather clever. It had the makings of a fantastic pet and she started calling forth more. Using them for her biding as she pleased.

As she spend he time on the island, the creatures offered companionship, company, and protection from other spirits. Something average animals could not touch, but Kaos easily fought.

:Now:

Thousands of years later, various islands in the chain of kalakosas are naturally full of Kaokas, and modern day humans who live close to the islands use them as guards for their homes and families against the wrath of angry spirits that reside here.

The island chain is fromed of 5 main islands. Kaos reside on the islands and even in the waters surrounding them. The islands are located in a sort of "devils triangle" thought to be the product of centuries of vodoo magic practiced there. The main and largest island known as Kintasi is inhabited by a lush tropical jungle on the majority of the island, there are also a large domant valcano and the upper half of the island. It snows here constantly and it's horrendously windy. The volcano erupted once, long ago; leaveing a large canyon like fissure down the western side of the island. Kintasi boast the most main variants of kao. Humans keep the Tasura; which is the main dog-like kao species; it's wild brothers and sisters also inhabit the island in their many forms. It boasts 3-4 large cities and many humans inhabit this main island. You can also find some ruins of the past civilization that founded the Kao. Two smaller twin islands known as casis and tasius are within canoeing distance of Kintasi and are less populated with humans. They also hold the same jungle, though Casis is a rich land and contains a large farming community. Tasius is much more forboding, boasting a large fetile land covered in swamps and bogs; many have attempted to explore this land only to be imprisoned in it's deep, murky waters. The second largest island is located farther away and is know as Nintabuu. The area here is hostile and rather cold, much like the arctic, the only kao really found here are the Polar kao. The fifth island is less known and holds many mysteries, it is aptly called Halsufaris, The island is a misty and foreboding place. It is said any who venture here never return and that it is the place of all the dark and evil energy that affects the other islands and the very reason the Kaos still exist. It is here that the veil's rip is locates and many angry demons and spirits venture forth to corrupt the world.

Within the oceans surrounding these areas you'll find the only kao that keep on the move and rarely stay in one place, the oceanic kaos.

:Why do they exist:

Even though the time of the vodoo priestess has long since past, the kaos are guardians spirits and are still needed. The Priestess ripped a hole in the veil that separates the people from the spirit realm beyond. Over time the small tear has become a gaping wound letting everything through, good or bad. The Kao's keep the bloodlines of humans they are sworn too protected from said spirits. (Collectively know as sintabu = evil dead/spirits). All human families will have a kao, many having their own (much life a life partner). The kao will be passed down from the person they protect to the next in kin, if another is born to the family, the kao will then make it's own offspring. (Basically there is at least one kaos to every 1/2 people). They are protectors and guardians.

::Creation::

-Pretty much anything goes color wise, however if your character has a ridiculous amount of colors it will not be accepted. We aren't trying to makes eyes bleed lol.

-NO THEMED KAOS; i.e. "halloween kao", "christmas kao" etc. Seasonal is fine color pallette wise, but no "snowflake/pumpkin/leaf/ markings etc.

  • Most kaos have some form of horns!!!! They can be real or a design you created/ made up, as long as it's not ridiculous!
-All kaos have a skull for a face
-All kaos have WHITE skulls, their talons (both front and back) will be the same color.
-Most all kaos have odd markings that look painted on their skulls and bodies (this comes from the vodoo)
  • Their skulls may be based on ANY realistic or made up animal!!!
    -No feather or bat wings.
-No elemental powers! They were once made of vodoo yes, but they don't have super powers!
-They may have acidic or venomous saliva as most of the food they eat is toxic.
-They can be "furry" and have hair, but so not make them ridiculously so unless you have a polar kao
-Tails can be a variety of styles: Kinked, Maned, sleek, spiked, Polar, Oceanic, Feathered and the tips match accordingly. Only kinked and Hand-tips are universal and can be found on all breeds.
Remember a spiked tail can not be on a polar kao.

Any other information on the species can be found in the folder in my gallery! Thanks all for the look see! If you make one please feel free to link below so I can add it to my favorites :)
