it's not really a "reboot," at least not on the level of One More Day or the New 52. It's kind of more like a soft or partial reboot if anything. Actually this might have been foreshadowed in Sonic Universe #50, when Eggman activated his new Metal Sonic, he mentioned a "soft reboot" whenever it showed signs of insubordination (not to repeat his mistake with Shard.) So I've actually been invited to sign petitions to get the writers to stop changing the status quo in the Sonic comic, for fear of basically losing our beloved cast for not being in the video games. I'm saying to everyone who reads the comic, HAVE A LITTLE FAITH! The writing team is very talented and are huge fans of Sonic themselves, they aren't going to destroy what they and millions of others have grown attached to for years, these aren't the writers of Spiderman or something. Actually if anything I am tempted to think this is all a Meta joke, spoofing the reboots that comics and movies have been doing for the past couple years. The comic's world has changed, in case you haven't noticed it has been changing all along, they just drew a little more attention to it this time (don't believe me? pick up an issue from before #150 or so, you'd be shocked.) Finally, the main characters have been rebooted, but they still REMEMBER their "original" selves, and oh yeah, this story line is called "countdown to chaos," which sounds like the title of one of their 4 issue storylines that we've seen in Sonic Universe.

My point is that this "reboot" hasn't been as severe as others, and so far we're getting every indication that at least some of these changes are going to be temporary, so you don't need to pitch a fit and you CERTAINLY don't have to circulate any petitions to tell the writers what to do (in reference to that I would like to mention this commercial: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5m\_ocIvUI24 This is THEIR job, let them do it.
