Why Critics's Ratings Being Different Than Audiences' Isn't Too Big of a Deal by GreenHamster

April 5th 2023 was when The Super Mario Bros Movie was released, and while fans did enjoy watching it, critics were mixed about it and that seemed to upset some people. While personally, I wasn’t planning on watching it not just because of the cast, but the fact that the writers treated Mario like some kind of Emmet Brickowski like character(which is funny since Chris Pratt played both of these characters) and I thought the designs were mediocre compared to their videogame counterparts, I also thought that what critics and audiences thought about it being different isn’t going to be a big problem for me even if I was planning on watching it. While I do like listening to others’ opinions whether I agree or disagree with them, I don’t like it when someone has a different opinion from mine and makes a big fuss over it.(No offense to anyone who does this.) One example of a movie I can think of that has different ratings from critics and audiences has to be Rudolph The Red Nosed Reindeer The Movie, which had mixed reception from critics just like the Super Mario Bros Movie, yet there are audiences that actually like the movie and as of writing this journal entry(April 8th, 2023), 93% of Google users like it including me. Even with looking at what critics rate it as well as other people said about it whether they liked it or not, my opinion still stayed the same for me. So just remember, it’s fine to share your thoughts on media as well as listening to others whether a critic or an audience member, but don’t ignore what they say. There are things that critics like but audiences don’t or things that critics don’t like that audiences do. Sure you can ask others if they recommend you taking a look at media or vice versa, but don’t force them to do so. Everyone has their own opinion and only you have the power to make the choice to watch a movie, play a game, or read a book, as well as decide whether you like it or not, and everyone does for their choices as well!
