I just got vaccinated. by TheOtherEliArts2001

So both of my parents have already gotten vaccinated for COVID-19. But it's only recently that they started issuing vaccinations for young people like me.

On Thursday, my parents had my appointment set up. And two days later on Saturday (which was yesterday), my parents drove me all the way to the place where my injection would take place.

There were a lot of young people there, either in their late teens or early twenties, basically the age group I am currently in.

First we sat within a great big tent, and waited a bit for our turn to get in a line that was already quite long. Everybody including me and my parents were wearing masks.

There were also a lot of people dressed in military uniform too, probably there to make sure nothing went wrong, to make the necessary announcements, and to direct the crowds of people to where they needed to go.

When it was finally our turn, we got up and entered this line, following a series of yellow dots that had been painted onto the sidewalks and floors.

Said dots also determined the distances between the people within the line, as obviously social distancing still had to be ensured.

It was quite the sunny day, and we had to spend a lot of time in the sun. So my mother had applied sun-screen to the nape of my neck and the back of my ears.

After getting my ID checked using my phone, we went into the interior of a building where me and many others were waiting our turns to be vaccinated.

Finally I was called over.

I sat down next to this lady who already had a syringe ready for use within this small container.

She asked me a series of questions regarding my health, such as my date of birth, if I've ever had an allergic reaction to things, if I've ever had blood clots, if I'm currently on medication, if I've ever gotten COVID-19 before, that sort of thing. I pretty much said no to all of them.

She then asked which arm I wanted to be injected, and I chose my left arm. The reason being that for both my parents, after they had gotten vaccinated, they described feeling pain not only at the injection site, but also for the arm that had been injected.

My right arm has my dominant hand, and I wanted to still be using it.

So the lady rolled up my sleeve and did the injection on my left shoulder. I was expecting pain, but I didn't really feel any. In fact, I don't think I really felt any other symptoms. I know that some people experience headaches and drowsiness after the injection, and sometimes it happens immediately. But I didn't really feel any of that.

After about Fifteen minutes, I was given the okay to leave. And then my and my parents drove back home again.

It wasn't until a couple hours later that I actually started feeling pain in my upper left arm, which I do know to be a common side effect of the injection. The pain wasn't too bad, I could certainly handle it. However I couldn't exactly hold up my left arm without it causing me to actually grimace a little.

As I type this, it is currently the next day, at nearly 7:40 PM, and my arm still hurts a little bit. But it has gotten better, and I expect it to be almost completely gone by tomorrow. Again, I have not felt any other symptoms. No headaches, no sickness, none of that.

Although I did feel a bit tired yesterday and ended up taking a nap in the middle of the day. But that's pretty much it. I don't feel anything else.

About three weeks from now, I will be getting my second vaccination. And it is two weeks after this that I will be considered as fully vaccinated.

Which not only means I have a lower chance at getting infected, but that I will also have the freedom to go out in public again. Though I'll probably still have to wear a mask, at least until the outbreak finally dies down. Yesterday there were over 1,600 cases of COVID-19, but now there are over 1,200 cases.

Progress is being made, but it's gonna take a while longer.

Anyway, that's about all I have to say. I don't know if this vaccination is going to work, but I hope it does. The sooner we have this pandemic dealt with one way or another, the better.

I'll update if anything new happens.

I just got vaccinated.
