100 by LordDominic

Well, it took just a little over 7 years, but I managed to crack 100 watchers here on Weasyl as of last night!

Just felt like that's a bit of an accomplishment on here, since the site's pretty quiet, and I thought it would be a nice little thing to bump the old "updates" journal from August 2020 off my page.

Now to celebrate with the 10 or so of those people who are actually still on this site!

All snark and sarcasm aside, I do appreciate my watchers, thanks for putting up with me and some of the weird shit (that's totally tame by most standards it seems) I think it's a good idea to post here.

    Congrats on the milestone.

Thanks! It doesn't seem like a lot compared to the bigger sites, but you gotta enjoy those little accomplishments sometimes.

In terms of "ratio of watchers to faves and comments and views I receive", Weasyl is actually my best-performing site, lol.

    I'm still only at 73.

I have noticed it's really difficult to attract new watchers here, probably because this is everybody's "dump and run" backup site.
Like 90 of the 100 followers I have here are people I know/knew from back on DA and only like 15 of the followers seem to be active here at all.

All I can suggest is, keep at it, and see if we can get more friends to give this site a shot? I'd love to see this place more active, I like it a lot more than DA and FA but it's so very quiet...

I've been doing exactly that since I left deviantART. People on FA have been asking about alternative art websites and I always direct them here. Plus I have a lot more stuff posted here then on FA.

The only reason I haven't left DeviantArt entirely is that it's the oldest and most complete archive of my art. Nowadays I just use Postybirb to post everywhere, and I disable comments on DA because all I ever got anymore was spam. I can't say I like FA all that much more than I liked DA back in 2019 but at least the site kinda works, you know? Eclipse killed DA for me.

I really should try posting some content exclusively here. I'm not sure how Weasyl feels about fetish stuff, though--FA seems to be all about fetishes, but Weasyl just seems like a more "clean" site, if that makes sense. Yet unless vanilla art is amazingly beautiful, nobody cares about that kind of stuff, so I'm not sure what I could be posting that would be interesting enough to draw people over here...

I'm currently in the process of trying to catalog my entire gallery on deviantART for re-upload...but there's almost 4000 posts so it's extremely overwhelming. ^^; https://www.weasyl.com/journal/165614/i-am-deleting-my-deviantart-account-soon-read

Weasyl does have NSFW options just like FA, and I've seen a fair share of kinky stuff here too.

Oh damn... I had, like, ~3000 things posted to DA when I began my migration, but I decided to be a bit selective about what I cross-posted. On the one hand, that does mean that a site I can't stand anymore is the only complete archive, but on the other hand, a lot of my art is objectively kinda crap and I didn't think it was worth cross-posting.

Might I suggest using Postybirb? I was initially rather hesitant to let a third-party program have my login credentials for my art sites, but it's a client-side program so I think it's probably safe enough... anyways, you could use it to post to FA and Weasyl simultaneously, only having to fill out the description and tags once, and even schedule your posts. Might be worth a look, especially with the sort of volume of cross-posting you plan to do.

I'm well aware that Weasyl allows NSFW content, and fetish content, and its ratings guidelines seem to be the same as FA's. I've also seen plenty of NSFW and fetish content here. That wasn't really what I was getting at, though... my concern is, much like how DA seems to have very vocal anti-fetish people, or like how FA seems to basically be a fetish site with little interest in vanilla art, how does the Weasyl community feel about such things? Does fetish art attract more positive attention than vanilla art? Or does this site as a whole seem to prefer to keep things clean?
It would be a bit ironic if the overall attitude was a bit on the prudish side since this is the only art site I've used that actually incorporates a proper blacklisting feature, to self-moderate what you don't see, so people could simply hide content they find distasteful--something that seems like it should be a must on any art site that allows any sort of NSFW, fetish, or kink content whatsoever.

I don't plan on reposting 100% of it either, mostly because a lot of the older stuff contains characters owned by people I no longer have contact with, but people have been asking to see the older stuff too.

I tried using Postybirb back in May, but I found it added an extra step that slowed things down even further, since I have back ups of all my stuff on my hard drive anyway, it's just the descriptions that need copying over.

Weasyl seems to be in-between in that regard, another reason I like it. It's a more "rounded" furry art site, for lack of a better term.

    I'm at 0 here...

Aww... Well, I did notice your page is empty in terms of submissions and collection items, maybe that's it? I have noticed the culture here is a little different than on FA and DA, not a lot of people seem interested in following others in general, and especially not accounts that don't post anything.

I know Weasyl has some rules about not posting art you didn't create though, kind of a double-edged sword there because the "watcher" demographic is an important part of any art site ecosystem, but at the same time I don't feel like I have to verify if the art I'm seeing is the original or a repost and it ensures that feedback is going to the original artists that created the art in the first place. Good for artists in theory, but it seems to scare off a lot of the watchers that make an art site active.

    Congrats on getting 100 watchers.

  • Link

Congratulations, I guess that's certainly a lot of watchers for this site, especially nowadays. ^^

    • Link

Thanks! A lot of those watchers are inactive accounts, sadly. It seems like a lot of the artists I follow here are inactive as well.
I have noticed that this site is still really quiet, but I think with the change of ownership over on FA and Eclipse not getting any better, more people are considering giving Weasyl a shot. It would be nice to see more people active here, this is a good site with some good features that just needs more members.
