Their News Announcement: LINK TO JOURNAL

This means that I will No Longer be accepting Point Commissions from here on out. In fact, I will not be conducting ANY commissions through DeviantArt services like the Widget. All commissions payment is now only available through Paypal directly. I use the invoice service of Paypal for my commissions.

I am really sorry to the people who commissioned me with Points through the widget, but I cannot accept them anymore due to this update. You all have supported me for the years, but I have no means to use points as they are now.

If you are interested in commissioning me, you can send me a filled form through my website when my commissions are announced to be open: LINK to Uluri's Website I will email you in return to further discuss the commission you are interested in. Your Commission files will also be sent to you via email in their original size when completed. (I shrink what I post to my art sites for security purposes).

I know I said I'd be ghosting social media for all of November, but I just wanted to say this.
DeviantArt has made a lot of dumb updates lately, such as how an account is now required to download free-to-use assets and me not being able to do so due to being banned. Well, they unbanned me apparently, but I only made an account for downloading free stuff and then immediately deactivated after since I'm not safe there. I can understand the mature content thing, but there has to be a way around that one. The fact that you now require an account to see it, regardless how old you are is kind of counter productive and it will just lead to people lying about their age even more.

This update takes the cake though. Some people can't currently take real money commissions for whatever reason, me for example, I don't have a credit card. So they basically took away for half of their artists' ability to make a living off of their art through their site. And in their own case, points now have no value. I wouldn't be surprised if those eventually get removed too.
I would give them my feedback, but regardless of being allowed back on their site, I'm not welcome there so it's pretty risky.

Freaking dA... The only reason I go on there AT ALL anymore is to advertise and remind everyone to follow me on OTHER sites, like here, FA and YouTube, because I somehow still have almost 1500 watchers over there despite trying to make it EXTREMELY clear I have no plans to be active there in the foreseeable future.

My unfamiliarity with many sites leaves me confused (as I looked at the journal), but just as an outsider—it looks like a huge grab for them to make more money, personally.

I’m sure this will hurt another chunk of their user-base that wasn’t already hurting from previous decisions. It might wind up being mostly professionals using that site in the future and not “normal people”.

Gonna go full conspiracy theory right now, but I've thought and think I know exactly why they are dumping their regular users off a cliff. For months they've had the feature "Premium Galleries" released which is something similar to patreon where you need to pay for access to view the art. They let everyone get comfy cozy using this Paywall Gallery feature so that when they dropped this, every one of them would require to have a core membership to get access to their earnings. Who needs to support regular member's commissions widget payments when we can trap our premium gallery users into a core membership? And also keep them from going to those third party ones like kofi, subscribestar, or Patreon since they're already set up here for months? -evily rubs greedy hands together like a fly-

ArtStation is more suited for professional artists. It has job opportunities other than simple commissioning. that place is built for it, and is indeed a good place to build a professional artist career. Magic the Gathering hires from that site for card illustrations and such after all. And Artstations Premium exists with actual perks. Deviantart? Nah. it's a living nightmare in comparison, and they have been implementing some really unhealthy social media features like Comment likes(like facebook/twitter) and now paid Badges for commenting funny things (like reddit). The owners of DA don't know what the Frik they are doing and they are def actually killing DA. my gosh.

I can only hope that other art sites Rise and pick up. This site if possible would be really nice. Not confident on Newgrounds since it doesn't have 18+ locks so its not a site for minors to be ruffling about. NOT the community for them my gosh. Pixiv is too japanese, and there would probably be too much of a barrier wall for most people to handle. The newest contender is still in developement. AAAAG I HATE TWITTER but everyone's going to go there.

I remember back before I left Fur Affinity in 2015--the rumours of "adult content behind paywall" ran pretty rampant there--primarily coming out of FA's buyout by that one company (which was not an adult content supporter). It sounds like DA took it a whole lot of lengths further than that. Do you know if they suffered from places like Patreon or Ko-Fi? Or did they make this decision to basically "copy" from those sites? Either way, it sucks for the fanbase, that's for sure.

In a way, it's very hard to swallow that they'd basically slap the majority of their userbase in their faces THIS HARD, but I suppose not particularly surprising given their changes over the past year or so. Deviant Art only got to where it is today, because of its users--now it's going to shrink their base on the hopes of making money. I suppose when there's $$$ involved, it doesn't matter what humans are using the site. :/

Yeah, for the past year, a lot of artists I follow have been [overhyping] their Twitter. I can't imagine Twitter as a gallery for any artist, though. But I suppose it's "all about immediate gratification" anymore.

Ha-ha............maybe we'll see more people show up here? XD

FurAffinity is doing Absolutely fine. Nothing changed with the site at all, really. They got a UI update that doesn't fuck up phones. Looks nice. Rules haven't changed much other than Banning Nazis now. FA goes offline a LOT less since the buyout. instead of once a week, its only maybe 3-5 times a year. Nothing hurt FA. There are no Premium features on FA. It's FA.

DeviantArt looks like they are literally just trying to copy everything from everywhere. Pieces of twitter, reddit, Patreon/kofi, Facebook. It is currently a Frankenstien over there. I can only describe DA as "shit" right now, and its all their fault. The person telling DA to change what they are changing are absolute idiots who don't know shit about art sites. I hear DA also wants to try to do video streaming, but jeeze frick they haven't even fixed groups.

Twitter so bad. Its not a gallery, can't find art, never see what you want in your news feed, its a NEWS feed, I see porn other artists like when they are horny because they have post recomendations regardless, and there are so many mean people on twitter. Like... you can be talking about anything like Cauliflower, and someone will try to harass you over cauliflower (true story). Good for news, not for galleries.

There may be more people coming here. I advertised My top art sites and what I think of each of them.

I definitely remember how people freaked out over the FA buyout and some of it sounds up the alley of what you’re describing of DA. People at FA feared changes from IMVU that “didn’t understand the fandom” and freaked out over losing access to their porn. I imagine DA will experience a lot of this crying, too.

It is refreshing to know that nothing really changed, but maybe they should’ve, to benefit the fandom a little more. XD

I’m sure this will seriously hurt DA and then they’ll wonder what happened. It’s never good to keep pushing paid subscription things onto a userbase used to “things being free”. DA was once “THE” art community—I was offline back then, but so many people I pen-palled with always talked about DA and how great it was.

Yeah, I can see Twitter as a place to daily promote your art, but NOT to use it as a gallery! I can’t imagine any artist who wants to be professional or make money on their art focusing solely on using Twitter as their main hub. @_@

It’ll be refreshing to see if we get an influx of new users here—and if they’ll stay. :) I do wish I had internet at home, because I’d love to browse the top page more and find new people. As it is, with limited to work wi-fi and my phone, I don’t do much internet anymore. I used to go over to my mom’s a lot, to spend time with her before she passed away—she had home internet! XD If we ever get past COVID-19, I can go to hangout spots again. :)
