Bite-Sized Tips by vandervast

Posting this mostly for myself - a single place to keep all my thoughts, ideas and reminders on what to do or not do in order to get better at drawing.

Not much here at the moment, but I'll keep expanding it.

GENERAL TIPS

  • Work smart, not hard. Make sure you're enjoying what you do and take breaks when you aren't.

  • Try Photography, 3D modeling, AI image generation, or even just looking at photos and art, or playing certain games. There are many activities that develop the same skills that you need for drawing, even when it's not obvious.

Poses:

  • CORE SKILLS YOU NEED FOR SKETCHING GOOD POSES:
  1. Proportions
  2. Composition
  3. Gesture
  4. Foreshortening
  • Try drawing legs starting with just the lower halves. Ignore the upper legs until placement of the lower legs feels right.

Anatomy - Head:

  • REMEMBER: eyes do not curve around the head. They sit on the front plane of the face which is relatively flat if you ignore the nose.

EXPOSURE

  • Notice which of your works are more popular and what makes them popular. Iterate on what makes your works successful.
