Birds of Prey - movie review by JohnStripedfur

(Note: I refuse to say the rest of the title because A) It's too long and B) It's a ridiculous add-on.)

I'm one of the few DC cinematic universe apologists. I like all of the DC films that are part of the DC cinematic universe so far. Especially with the way they were going at the beginning. Granted they messed up by after starting with Man of Steel by just throwing the entire build up in one movie with Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice, but I was still hopeful because I like the tones of the DC movies and wanted them to succeed. Then, they announced a Birds of Prey movie and I thought, why? Why Birds of Prey now? Same with Batman vs. Superman. Why can't they just make a Batman movie first, then Man of Steel 2, and THEN Batman vs. Superman. Same with Birds of Prey. Why not Batgirl first, then Gotham City Sirens, and then Birds of Prey. But, Warner Brothers is always reactionary and go with what the audience likes and try to make bank on it. And that's just the way it is.

Anyways, the movie itself. The movie wasn't what it was advertised. I thought it was an actual Birds of Prey movie, but it's more of a Harley Quinn movie. I thought it was PG-13, extremely surprised that it's rated R. So, if you have any kids younger than 14, DO NOT bring them to see this movie. It's very R with the violence and the swearing. No nudity, though and no sex. It's almost Deadpool light. Which I think DC/WB is trying with this movie. I can see that, but Harley Quinn is no Deadpool. DC already has their own Deadpool and that's Lobo. Well, the action is actually quite good. I found myself quite enjoying it. It's almost like what Suicide Squad was when first came out, but more organized. The story is very easy to follow once you get use to hearing it from Harley's point of view. Mostly because she is a crazy woman. And each character was introduced very easily as well and you don't have to know the comics in order to know who they are. Black Mask was a pretty entertaining villain. A little over-the-top at times, but it is that kind of movie. Ewan McGreggor was having a blast playing Black Mask. Even though I know nothing of Black Mask since he's a more recent character in the Batman gallery.

Overall, a very entertaining action/comic book movie. If you love Harley Quinn from the movie Suicide Squad, you will like this movie.
