Avania 2020 Update by World of Avania

[Read this journal on my DeviantArt if you'd like to see the pictures!]

It’s only been about 6 months since my last status update, but it feels like a decade... In any case, I’ve been busier than ever with the comic, and am happy to report another chapter has been completed, which brings the total number of comic pages (not counting credits pages or covers) to One Hundred!

This exciting milestone is right smack in the middle of Issue No.5 (due to Issue No.1 having 30 pages instead of 20 like the rest) but I’m still thrilled to have made it this far!  I am a little ahead of schedule with starting chapter 11--the second half of Issue No.5, which is good, because there’s going to be a lot of layout work and then drawing for a sizable portion of it.

To briefly recap, Avania launched about 18 months ago on July 8th, 2018, after about 5 years of dedicated work (and close to 10 for general development of the characters and setting). As of January 2020, the comic has since reached the following numbers:

Total Comic Posts (Covers and Interior Pages): 82

Pages Published: 71

Issues Completed: 4 and 1/2

Pages Completed: 100

Pages Written: 310

Total Planned for Season 1: 17 Issues, 360 Pages

As I’ve mentioned from the start, the weekly publishing schedule is faster than I can currently produce pages, so when the comic reaches the end of its first story arc (about ¼ into the overall season arc) I am planning on switching to an on-off pattern of finishing a chapter, and then posting pages every week until it is done. I believe this will be the best compromise between trying to maintain a weekly schedule and ensuring both story and art quality continue to improve.

Of course, my ultimate goal is to work on Avania full-time, and thus be able to post weekly… Or more!

Upon starting the webcomic, I have had less time to focus on the other editions, but rest assured I am still planning on releasing full issues both digitally and in print. However, due to my process of making small fixes and tweaks right up until I post the page to the web, and also the growing number of pages, I have found preparing files for print to be more time consuming than ever... As such I think my plan will likely be to finish off Issue No.5 and with it the first arc of the story, so that things can settle and I will be able to get everything shipshape for printing all in one pass and not worry about it any more while I start working on Issue No.6 and beyond.

Do let me know if you are interested in purchasing physical copies, or full-resolution digital copies on Comixology though! I hope to have my printing adjustments completely worked out soon so larger batch printing can commence. In the meantime, you can check out the Avania PX online store for poster-sized prints, stickers, and buttons (with new stuff coming soon too)!

Your support is very much appreciated, and I am always happy to hear your questions, comments, and suggestions too. If you have questions regarding the comic’s setting or characters, just send an ask to Avania Mail and get your answer in the form of a comic.

All in all, I think 2020 is going to be an exciting year, and I look forward to bringing you more of Avania and other art! Once again, I would like to give a big thank you to fans, readers, and everyone who enjoys my work!
