Abandoned bunnies – commission/donation call! by Amethyst Mare

Clearly, for some, it is not the season for giving or goodwill as I stumbled across a charming individual who was giving up their bunnies and “getting rid of them”. Okay, fair enough, I said, maybe they have health issues; that’s how our dog came to us too as the gentleman who owned him had a heart attack and health issues, that could be fair. I’ll direct them to the rabbit rescue locally and they’ll be okay. But, oh no, they can’t wait until the new year when the rescue opens again because they’re going on holiday! They are getting rid of the rabbits as they have a baby and don’t have the time for them, plus the whole going away lark without considering the rabbits, who could very easily go into boarding or have someone come by to look after them.

But I’m getting riled up again and I’ve been snarling to myself about this for the better part of the day, so I need to get on to the meat of this. The bunnies will be collected by us this weekend, two little does that, of course, are neither spayed nor vaccinated, putting them at risk of cancer (high in unspayed doe rabbits) and both myxie and RHD1 and RHD2, all of which are horrible ways to die. I’ve seen the wild rabbits here dying of myxie: it’s horrific. Seriously, if you can’t look after pets, don’t get them. Vaccinate them. They are not disposable.

I plan on looking after them until the rescue opens again in the new year (as they are one I trust) and hopefully the rescue will then be able to take them with their hutch or I can foster them until they find a home through the rescue. However, I will at the bare minimum need to vaccinate them as this is essential – honestly, I don’t know how they haven’t ripped each other apart as unspayed females, very territorial. They must be incredibly good-natured to have gotten along together without hormones getting the better of them.

And that is why I am, this time, opening and requesting donations (and commissions, though I will lose a portion of this money to taxes, be aware) to go specifically to vaccinating and, if they stay with me for longer, spaying these rabbits too so that their lives, hopefully, may be long and healthy. Thankfully, they are a lot cheaper than horses (it’s not hard to be) but the cost of spaying will be what makes things more difficult. I’d appreciate any assistance at all towards buying them toys to chew too, hay and nuggets to feed. I should have spare bowls for them but anything extra will just go with them to the rescue or their new home.

I hate talking about them like objects. These are living, breathing bunnies and yet someone thinks they can just get rid of them. How low have we sunk? They need something and, even though I don’t have the space to keep them permanently, I’m scared that they will be dumped in a box somewhere if I didn’t try to do something. And this, for once, just so happens to be in my area.

So, if you have a few pounds or dollars going spare, it will go a long way towards helping these doe bunnies, getting them their vaccinations and something to start them on their way to find a new home. The rescue too will always take back bunnies if something happens so, of course, they will never again be at risk again of being dumped.

I am open to everything and anything pretty much, barring underage characters in NSFW stories, and have an excellent turnaround time along with experience in commission-taking, offering editing and proofreading work too.

Thank you once again for following along and I will keep everyone updated. A little will go a long way here and I appreciate all the support.
