FURCAR: Camping World 301 @ Loudon (results/standings) by furcar

With humidity and spirits high, the FURCAR drivers, crews, and fans converged on Loudon, New Hampshire to take on the Magic Mile, and possibly some fun over at Lake Winnipesaukee and Funspot Arcade!

Qualifying got underway with Croco Chilton setting a fast pace right from the get-go, breaking last year’s qualifying record. Everyone else tried to match his time but were relegated to filling out the rest of the field behind him. Season points leader Belic Bear took to the track and set a blistering time, coming within a hair’s breadth of beating the croc but had to settle for a second-place starting position. Or that was the intent. Post-qualifying inspection, however, found the front of the car to be too low to be legal. Belic tried to argue that his weight would naturally cause the car to “settle”, but FURCAR officials weren’t “settling” for that excuse and disqualified his laps, sending him to the back of the field for the start of the race. Interviews were later attempted with Belic’s crew chief but were denied. For subsequent practices and race day morning itself, a new crew chief was seen working in the bruin’s garage and pit area. Edscott, returning from a relaxing week off, qualified second with Mark and Tigris starting in Row 2.

Race day morning was perfect and the skies stayed clear, though the humidity crept up again. It was a relief for the drivers to get underway on the track behind the pace car, washing away the heated air inside their cars. Croco led the field to the start and the race was underway!

The entire first half of the race was uneventful and the only car out was Moon Mochi, whose transmission blew on Lap 4, much to her dismay. However, the few drivers still behind her on the track easily avoided the lady as she kept her car under control and coasted it down on the inside of the track and into the pits without incident or even a caution in what was left of her second gear.

With ninety laps to go, Slidewolf and Tigris got together, sending them to the garage for lengthy repairs. They would later emerge back on the track, trying to vie for that one extra point over the other driver.

Once laps started winding down, the racing got serious and a bit more dicey as drivers fought to keep what position they had and make a move on the cars ahead of them. Cheesebeagle and Eric pulled ahead for a bit, followed by a tight pack consisting of Zero, Ice road lion, K’gra, Mark, and Dart Wuffy.

At the checkered flag, Cheesebeagle managed to edge out Eric for the top spot, with Jackie Rae, Mark, and K’gra rounding out the top-5. Finishing in the top-10 were Ice road lion, Dart, Zero, Duroc, and Belic.

Belic managed to hold onto the season points lead, but Cheesebeagle leapt into second with his victory, putting the gap between first and second just seven points apart. Duroc moved down into third, but kept it tight, being only six points behind Cheesebeagle. There’s a serious threat to the ursine’s dominance! Shockey Rai held onto fourth, while Zero and Mark jumped five positions each into fifth and sixth, respectively. Wildfox remained in seventh, and Dart Wuffy moved from twelfth to eighth. Jackie Rae and Eric also moved up into the top-10. Taking a tumble this week were Tigris and Moon Mochi with their disappointing finishes.

On the rookie homefront, with Harry unable to make the race, Draco was able to gain ten points on the leader, keeping them close in the standings.

We have this coming weekend off to enjoy the summer, but return with us for the weekend of July 28th for the Crown Royal Presents the Samuel Deeds 400 at the Brickyard Powered by BigMachineRecords.com, honoring Samuel Deeds, a retired gunnery sergeant who risked his own safety to save fellow soldiers and then returned home to heal, only to find himself rescuing civilians from a deadly riptide off the North Carolina coast. (http://www.nascar.com/en\_us/news-media/articles/2013/06/27/marine-honored-crown-royal-samuel-deeds-brickyard-400-indianapolis.html) See you there!
