Technical Help, Please! by Dipper

For the last week, my friend, @bobbythornbody , has been having trouble uploading ANY audio file from his computer to SoFurry. Prior to this week, he was having no trouble, and he says he has not installed anything new in weeks so that isn't the issue. Whenever he try to upload audio now, after choosing the audio file, the usual progress bar and counter beneath it are supposed to show up. In his case though, the progress bar stays blank, and underneath it, which is supposed to show the progress of the upload reads 'NaN bytes /' Neither of us have no idea why. He has tried this with both Firefox and Internet Explorer. Same result both times.

When he uses a different computer, there is no problem uploading audio files to SoFurry. When he uploads the same audio files to another site, such as Weasyl, FurAffinity, or Inkbunny, there is no problem. When he uploads regular artwork to SoFurry, there is no problem.

The problem is specifically:

1) His computer

2) SoFurry

3) audio files

He put in a support ticket on the issue several days ago but has received no response as yet. Until he is able to determine how SoFurry uploads audio files he has to rely on me to do it for him, which is a bit of a breach of security, a real pain for me, but what choice does he have?

Any help you can give us on this would be welcome.

Toumal would tell you that the browser of choice for SoFurry is Google Chrome. As for the support ticket getting no response, keep in mind that Toumal sorts through those tickets himself with the help of his staff. They receive literally a thousand in a week. They may not have seen Bobby's ticket as yet. Also remember that when Firefox updates frequently that it does NOT update Adobe Flash Player (used in uploads to these sites) and said program must be installed manually after every Firefox update. Adobe Flash Player also affects Livestream performance. Chances are good that Bobby has a system that needs driver updates that he hasn't performed as yet.

(I've updated Adobe Flash, Java, GeForce, and Microsoft Visual C + + this month alone. Up to date drivers keeps a system at its ability to run smoothly. But you knew that yourself.)

I'd definitely look into updating drivers and plugins as Pouchlaw has suggested. Also find out if IE updated with the regular system updates, as it tends to want to. Might also want to try a double check on the internet connection itself. As you know, it takes very little to pload a JPEG, but a lot more to upload an audio file. It could be SoFurry is demanding more than the current connection can give, so a reboot of the modem/router and puter may be all that's needed.
