Men In Black: International - movie review by JohnStripedfur

I remember when the first Men In Black came out over 20 years ago. It was one of the biggest movies of that time. I remember enjoying it very much so and thought it's one of the most creative sci-fi action flicks. It was certainly big at the time. But then the sequels came. And each one was either bad or just not good enough. MIB 2 was bad all around. MIB 3 was slightly better, but not as good as the first one. The animated series was the closest we had for to see a universe with MIB in it. So, when they announced another MIB movie, I wasn't at all excited. Course, they were pitching it as a crossover movie with 21 Jump Street. Which I thought was interesting, but didn't think it would work out. Glad they decided to drop that one and try to make it as a expanded sequel with two different new characters.

This movie wasn't bad. But, it wasn't good either. There were some enjoyable parts in it and some of the jokes were funny. But, overall, it felt like it's a parody of itself. Much like how Thor: Rhagnarok was. Which is probably why they got Chris Hemsworth and Tessa Thompson to be in it. The characters were ok, the story was ok, the effects were ok, and I did like that they expanded the world a bit as it's set in Europe and North Africa instead of New York City like the other sequels were. But, it's not enough to make this a worthy enough sequel of the first one.

In my opinion, Men In Black is much like Ghostbusters. The first one is a lightning in a bottle scenario. The sequels couldn't get that. No matter how much they tried, a franchise just couldn't work. Perhaps there are some movies that really don't need sequels even though they do.

Overall, if you really love Thor: Ragnarok. You would love this movie. If you didn't, you would think this movie is just ok.
