▲🌱Please add Captchas Weasyl! The SPam! by Uluri

Please add Captchas or something. It's only a few more steps for me to log in, but I really would appreciate if something could be done about the spam currently in the Browse area. It sucked in the Journal area, too, but it 10x more an awful thing in browse. I want to enjoy the artists of this site. I don't want to be hesitant to click on nice art because of a piece of trash spam. An extra step to logging in is no problem for me.

I know. >_< Sadly there is not much I can do other than keep banning them as I see them pop up.
I've brought it up a handful of time, but no one seems to want to anything about them. :/
It's really gotten out of hand now and I am close to walking away because of them.

Should I send an Email? Do the other staffs see emails other than just you?

Sending an e-mail would be unfortunately be ineffectual. :/

The next best thing would be to contact Ikani, he is the site owner.

Yikes, THAT bad? It's disappointing to read that you don't have support..

I know the bots are bad... I've had zero time for art for a long time now, so I'm just a lurker now for the most part...there are days when I see 2-4pgs of solid bot spam. I feel like the bot issue has made a sizable impact on the site as far as content uploads, new user sign ups, and user retention. A site constantly being flooded with spam (some extreme content as well) doesn't look too attractive, and can be seen as a security issue. I really wish you had the staff support...you definitely have user support.

It's not that I don't have their support, they just aren't really doing anything right now to mitigate them.
I caved and sent a not so nice note to Ikani the other day about it. >_> I hope they listen.
Fiz and I have been banning our butts off and were getting tired. lol

There's only so much you can do, you know? Bots don't stop...at all. I think that if they don't do something to try and effectively stop bots (captcha, etc), it's going to be a real bad thing for the site overall. I don't think it makes the site look good to have a constant swarm of spam :/ Not sure what happened in the past year that sent the bot swarms up from 1 to 1000000000000.

I really hope Ikani listens. I really, really feel that this is more of a detriment than some realize.

There actually is re-captia set up on the registration page, but, there are ways around it and its not perfect.
An idea ive had floating around in my head on a way to mitigate this is if the account is under X age, and this is their first piece of content, and it only contains one or more URLs, flag it for review for an admin to check. While the load on the admins would be the same (would still have to look at the reports and determine if legit or spam), it would hide the spam from the site and from search engines.
