Pokemon: Detective Pikachu - movie review by JohnStripedfur

I'm not a huge Pokémon fan, but I am a fan of the world. I only watched the first three seasons of Pokémon the anime and kind of lost interest in since then. I've only played Pokémon Red back then and that's about it as far as games go. Even though I kind of lost interest, I still haven't lost a bit of a fan of the world itself. So, when I heard about a Pokémon live action movie being made, I was kind of excited. Because out of all the video game/anime they should do a live action adaptation, Pokémon was at the top of the list. Then, I heard the story they will do is Detective Pikachu. I never even heard of it and out of all of the games and/or storylines of the Pokémon world, they choose that? No one would watch that. Everyone wants to watch Pokémon battles. That's the only reason why Pokémon has been popular for many years. The battles. But...I saw the trailer and I was blown away with the design of the Pokémon. And THAT got me interest in the movie itself. Hopefully if the movie does well enough, we could get an actual Pokémon movie that everybody wants.

The movie itself was actually not that bad. It's pretty good. Throughout the entire movie, I was too busy looking at the CGI Pokémon to pay attention to the story itself. I might have to watch it again so I can identify any more Pokémon I recognize. The story itself wasn't terrible, but it's kind of predictable. Not right away, but it fits for this movie since it's aimed more for kids. There are plenty of fan service in this movie for the die hard Pokémon fans. The comedy is a hit and miss. Depends if you're a big fan of Ryan Reynolds.

Overall, this movie is pretty good. If you're a huge Pokémon fan and if you have kids. Go see this movie. Hopefully it'll make enough money to warrant a true live action Pokémon movie everyone wants. Tournament.
