Dumbo (2019) - movie review by JohnStripedfur

I consider Dumbo to be one of the best Disney classics in their library canon. Even though there are a couple scenes in the original that won't hold up today, overall it's a classic that anyone who is a Disney fan that's a much watch. When I heard they added this one to be in the list of live action remakes, I was intrigued because they can do something different. But, when I heard Tim Burton is directing it, I was skeptical. Mainly because the last two Disney movies that Tim Burton directed wasn't good. And it was the Alice movies. Granted the first one made a ton of money, the second one though didn't. So, I wasn't sure how he would do this one. The trailers made it look really good so far, so I held my skepticism of the remake until I see it for myself.

After seeing it, I think I prefer the original animated classic. It's not bad. Not at all. But, I wouldn't say it's good either. It's pretty much in the middle. Out of all the Tim Burton movies lately that I've seen, this probably is the better one. And that's not saying much. The first thirty minutes of it is pretty much a faithful adaptation of the original while the rest pretty much felt like a sequel. I wouldn't be surprised if that's what the original Dumbo sequel was suppose to be a long time ago. Although the visuals were pretty stunning and Dumbo himself was cute as hell. The other characters, which are all human, isn't very good. There were some wooden acting, especially among the children, but at least they tried since the script was pretty week. And there were several nods to the original.

Overall, if you're a fan of the original classic. You would probably stick with it. If you have children under 10, they would like it more than the adults would.
