Hello and Welcome by Eddy-White

So, after getting fed up with the usual generic garbage that DA insist on showing on a Daily basis (ooh, more Manga, a dragon thing and a landscape. Again.) I decided to follow footsteps and find somewhere else to display the fruits of my imagination.
Still trying to work out what goes where but do far, so good.
I really do appreciate comments and criticism so please let me know your thoughts; though do be mindful!
All the best,
Eddy

I am such a terrible influence... Glad to have you on board, at least!

There's a lot to see here that I either don't see, or just simply isn't, on DA. A shame that so many interesting pieces I find while browsing are from artists who seem to have gone silent years ago and that currently there's not a whole lot of activity fave and comment-wise. A bad day on DA still beats a good week on Weasyl but I think that falling into the trap of caring about those things and measuring the worth of art on views and faves and comments has actually hurt me and my progress the past couple years.

Anyways, aside from how to reply to things... Tagging is important! I've been trying to get the hang of it since I don't know a lot of fetish and fandom-specific slang, terms, acronyms and buzzwords, or even what's relevant in general. "Anthro", "furry", species terms... maybe tagging what the background or scene is would be helpful too? Garments being worn could be relevant, for example, "Lady Lucretia" seems to be wearing a corset (I don't know if there's a specific name for this garment, sorry!), that might be worth tagging. "Lingerie", "underwear", "bra", "panties", that sort of stuff. Or style-related tags. "painting", tags related to the media used or the genre (I think a lot of your stuff being "horror" or "macabre" will definitely stand out).

It is possible for users to add tags to your work, if you want I could try to add a few I feel are relevant. Up to you, really, it sorta depends on the sort of crowd you want to attract, but it also helps with exposure and discovery, and helps people blacklist stuff they don't wanna see. Once I remember where the hell it is (somewhere in the Options), I'll tell you where to go to blacklist "anime" and "manga" and never have to worry about seeing that on here again.

Not that it really seems to be here. This seems to have, for better and for worse, become a "furry site".

Anything else I can help with, let me know! I'm making an effort to be more active and interactive on here.

I've always found comments quite encouraging, you normally know you've done something right (one gentleman REALLY liked one pic I was reliably informed). Weasyl is a little quieter and that can be expected but at least a lot of us on here are more on the amateur/hobbiest level.

Never thought about that on the tagging. I'll have to amend that, that's if I know myself what they are wearing! I never thought it was that relevant.

Thankfully, there doesn't seem to be as much of the 'Jap crap' on here; anthro and especially Furry art seems to have its own style as well as ones own inspirations.
The 'porn' stuff I find a little disturbing at times, I've drawn the line (so to speak) on Anthrogirls and have been asked why their work is declined but I have to be diplomatic and not say "because it's disgusting and you need help". Probably best to stay away from FA as well I think.

Thanks for your help and advice, you've been great! Will be looking at folders and collections soon...

I think I know the type. Weasyl seems to be almost exclusively artists and no lurkers, so that might skew the "quality meter" a bit. Less spammy comments, less spam faves, less creepers in general so far. It will make finding and retaining an audience a bit more challenging, for sure, but I think I'll manage. People here seem more reserved, I haven't really seen the same sort of drama and vitriol as DA so far.

The tagging thing is actually super-important, and there's no tag limit that I'm aware of. Just make sure the tags are actually relevant to the piece in question and you should be fine.

You may want to go into your settings and see what your max viewable rating is--I have mine set to "mature" but filter out "explicit". I see lots of dicks and nips but nowhere near as bad as I'd expect! I'm also desensitized. Not really my thing, but I just think "eww" and move on. I like that your ladies are sexy, but they're not just spread-eagle screaming "LOOK AT MY BABY MAKING BITS!"
I know exactly what you mean about people that need help, too. The hell ever happened to being classy? I hate it when I post something cartoon and innocent but get creepy comments anyways. I can imagine that in your chosen subject matter it's even worse. My opinion of FA has improved a bit as I've talked to others that aren't part of the porn/fetish/"social aspects only" crowd but I still doubt it's really for me either...

Okay, the easy one first: "Collections" is for art drawn of your characters or drawn for you. When you "collect" something it notifies your watchers. Great way to signal-boost something a friend draws for you, or you commissioned, or whatever the case may be. If somebody faves it later on, you get a notification as well as the original artist! It really pisses off those furries that just commission and repost work, though... but I think it's great for artists.
I'll have to decline your collection request for Perrine, though. Nothing personal.
In theory, you could use this feature to run a sort of rudimentary group but I'm not sure if that's allowed or if people here would really be interested in that. Seems like DA does "groups" just because there's so much on the site that it becomes necessary for users to curate smaller collections.

Folders... a bit iffier. You have to go into your settings to create a folder. I think they auto-sort alphanumerically. You can only put a picture into one folder (no multi-folder sorting like DA), and everything appears in your "root" gallery regardless. Hence why I'm sorting my stuff by years as I upload older art, with a "personal favorites" folder as well. No sense over-complicating things! All the submissions seem to sort by date, too, no custom rearranging like you can do over on DA. Not that I ever really bother with that over there anyways.

Also, if it becomes necessary... "Block" is called "Ignore" here and you do it from a user's profile page. There's also "Friends", which basically allows you to set some content as "friends only" and restrict comments to "friends only" on your page or submissions. Which reminds me, I'll have to send a friend request here soon. "Friend" and "Follow" aren't the same function, though--you can do one without the other, and Friend status doesn't mean you're following.

I'll probably be posting another journal soon just to keep up activity and interaction, I'll have to shout you out! I have, like, 5 active watchers here--about what I have on DA! Only difference is, I have 53 watchers here and 5 interact, meaning my engagement rate is closer to 10% than the less than 1% I have on DA.

Ah, glad you mentioned the Collection/folders thing, would like to collect some work, yours included, but something didn't seem right. Apologies for the inconvenience, I'll have a muck about and see what happens.

It's fine, there's a bit of a learning curve--especially since Weasyl seems to be the only site with this sort of "Collection" feature. Now I wonder how many other people who came from DA have mixed up "collections" and "favorites" because of how DA uses those terms...

I got your note, by the way, and explained it a bit better there.
