Five Geek Social Fallacies

Seriously, take a look if ya can. Big Words Scary, I know, but it's good insightful stuff.

This page mostly references face-to-face interactions IRL, but it's still applicable to the online fandom experience. I didn't even realize how harmful "geek culture" had been to me until I read and realized how painfully accurate it felt. Points 1 and 2 are the ones I've felt personally, and the ones I've seen especially permeating the Furry fandom.

Now get this: this is a page from 2003.
Problems like this didn't crop up because of the newest generation, or trolls, or "SJWs" (eyeroll). These problems have been around for well over 15 years - hell, likely decades! - affecting people who may never even realize what's wrong. Folks just seem to believe that things were better once upon a time, because in those moments they remember being so good they were ignorant of what was going on behind the nostalgia fun curtain.

Hell, I believe that because of the page's age it's good, as modern criticism of fandom culture seems to have decided that autistic people, children just trying to have fun, and people with morals are the real problem. They're not.

Criticising something you enjoy doesn't equal hating it, and enjoying something doesn't mean you have to identify with that thing either. Viewing fandoms (and fandom-famous people especially) through a critical eye is a good, mature thing to do!

Though I'd be damned if I didn't say it's lonely sometimes.
It's a road awash in general bullcrap, in victim-blaming, in shitty people posturing for cheap clicks from the lowest common denominator, in "well, it's online, so let's be the worst people imaginable for no reason!" It's getting "hugbox!" and "safe space!" and "stop being divisive!" and "sjw!" and "stop the drama!" moaned at you because you actually curate your online experience and don't tolerate the horrible shit furries will happily excuse because someone draws pretty pictures. Yes, I am bitter. No, I am not just a party pooper. But I digress...

And now completely off-topic, here's a really fuckin' cool site where you can position an animal skull in 3d and get real photo references in that perspective: https://x6ud.github.io/#/

Yeah, that list is staggeringly encompassing of so many issues I find with people and within myself sometimes. I won't deny that.
Def something to be more self reflective on in myself. Thanks for the link!
