The Predator - movie review by JohnStripedfur

First, let me say that I'm more or a Alien fan than a Predator fan. But, that's not to say I don't enjoy the Predator movies. I really do enjoy them. Especially the first two. There they right set of campy action rated-R movies that one watches during the 80's and 90's. Predators was a good follow up, but not too much. The Alien vs. Predator movies were just a huge mess. So, I was excited for The Predator because Shane Black is writing and directing it and he was in the original.

And when I saw it. It's kind of like some new director trying to recreate a rated-R action movie. That's what it feels to me. The comedy was not necessary. I wasn't laughing at any of the jokes whatsoever. The blood and gore effects were CGI. And the action scenes were not that entertaining. I didn't really enjoy this movie. It does have some good parts. It's got the usual action bloody scenes that the Predator movies are known for, but the script just didn't make you immerse into it. The script was a huge problem and Shane Black wrote it. I didn't feel for any of the characters, the "upgraded" Predator wasn't that intimidating, and the Pred Dogs (oh god!). Yeah, this movie is not worth your hard earned money to see it.

I was also flabbergasted by seeing many adults bringing in their children that are obviously younger than 10 years old. Not exactly the type of movie to bring them to see it. I don't understand why anyone would bring children younger than 10 to see a rated R bloody movie. I know the rules state that anyone younger than 17 must be accompanied by an adult at all times, but come on people. There are better movies more suited for them than a rated R ones. Just because you want to see it doesn't mean you should bring your kids to see it.

Rant aside, if you're a fan of the first two Predator movies. You won't enjoy this one as much.
