I just realised the old journal was outdated by casual-dhole

So here's a new one, although there's nothing much going on at the moment. I am currently working on a small coffee table game, you can take a look at the w.i.p. here, http://necktiedog.com/games/angkat\_early/

Controls are the arrow keys, X to pick up and drop, and C to throw

Oh man, those sprites are insanely adorable. I like the understated prettiness of the background, too.

    • Link

Ah, the background is actually from my previous game and I'm using it as a placeholder for the moment here. The sprite characters are actual volunteers though. It all started here http://www.furaffinity.net/journal/4388001/. More people are still welcome if you're interested :3

I'd like to join In that.

        Ref: https://www.weasyl.com/character/14563

        Can't wait. :3

        • Link

Glad to have you in ! I'm thinking of putting updates as journals, so keep an eye out ?

      • Link

That would be way cool! If you'd want to, of course.

I don't really have a proper reference sheet, but I do have this thing.

        • Link

The more the merrier so far :3

Wait wait hold up... LINKS CAN BE PLACED IN WEASYL ? WHUUUUUUT

          • Link

Yep! Just use . BBCodes are here.

            • Link

Ah thankies, I guess I was too used to da and fa autocorrecting it for me, ahaha

  • Link

What was this game built off of?

    GameMaker? Programming by scratch?

    • Link

Oh, it's made in javascript so it should play consistently on any platform... in theory :3

      • Link

Nice. I'm planning to make a video game of my own. 3D too.

Too bad C++ is obnoxious to work with.

        • Link

C++ is ok I guess, but it is very tedious. People tend to start with an engine like unreal or cryengine and work up from there.

          • Link

I'm going to try UDK at some point when I'm not so lazy. :3

            • Link

Ahaha, UDK is a good engine, if you have time check out unity too, I heard it's pretty nice

              • Link

                I'll do that.

                One more thing. HOW DO YOU DO PIXEL ART IT IS SO HARD ;~;

                • Link

Ah, I don't think it's that hard, I find it easier than an actually painting because I don't have to worry about the colours so much. I'm thinking of doing some short livestreams of this if there's some interest, maybe you can see my workflow then ?

  • Link

I don't know what this is, but I like it. Those sprites are especially loveable. Please keep us updated :3

    • Link

Sure thing spix :3 It's basically a sort of practice for me because it's been more than a year since I last coded and stuff and I just feel slow and rusty. For the sprites you can thank the nice people who allowed me to turn their characters to little pocket sized pooties. Volunteers are still welcome though, would you like to join in too ?

  • Link

I'm just gonna say outright that the controls are difficult and I hate the bounce that comes from hitting something.

    • Link

Fair enough, the bounce at the moment is just simple collision detection which transfers the velocity of one entity to another. Would you feel it would be better if there was less bounce ? Are the controls difficult because it's unresponsive ?

  • Link

Oh my gosh. That is just unbelievably cute. I love the actions of each character and how each is recognizable. Really really great job, man.

    • Link

Aw thanks coyoten. It was fun making up the different people's properties and part of the fun is the variety of people who volunteered. Speaking of which, would you like to join in too ? At the moment it's more the merrier :3

      • Link

I'd love to! Do you need a reference or anything?

        • Link

Ah, a reference would be nice, if there's no reference I'll make a guess from your avatar :3

  • Link

The level design that you have built reminds me of an area in this small mini-game thing on my graphing calculator called blockdude, with the being able to move crates and such to get around and solving puzzles x3 loved that game

The sprites and surroundings in this look beautiful, I cant wait to see what you come up with next ^^

    • Link

Oh man I think I remember that game ! It wasn't on my calculator but my friend has it and I remember playing though a whole maths class with it. And thanks Kaj .w. It's still early on and stuff but just out of curiosity would you like to join in as a character ? For fun and stuff :3

      • Link

I used to have it on my personal calc but then I forgot it one time after having to take some standardized test and the guy that found it and wiped all my games off it before giving it back, douche D:

asdfghj Id love to be in it <3 Im guessing youll need a ref?

        • Link

          Oh nuuuuu D:

Either a ref or I'll make a guess based on your current avatar .w.
