Back from Pine Fur Con! by INKtiger

Okay so a little delayed here but it's always a mess when I return from a con and I had to get a few things sorted before I got my report out there.
First of all, keep in mind this is from an artists point of view and I'm usually trapped working the entire con so I don't see what others do. I'm just going to report on my own experience here.

Pine Fur Con was very well organized for a First year con and the staff was just wonderful! Of course there are always a few little bumps to work out as running a con is a very surreal and stressful thing to do but these guys handled it all very well. The dealer room had lots of space between table aisles so we didn't have issues with people running into tables or bumping things even in suit. The chairs were a tad uncomfortable but that's not the con's fault and something that could easily fixed. I LOVE that they closed for an hour each day to give us Dealers time to stretch our legs and go get a lunch. I realize it's impossible to do that at really big cons, but it was really great change I enjoyed very much.

The hotel was nice, and the staff was also very nice. I think the bar/restaurant was a little under prepared for how many of us there would be but they still did a good job taking care of us. Food was good and reasonably priced. Being in the West tower was a little rough, I was on the 4th floor and I could hear the music playing from the dances through the walls. I still managed to get some sleep because I always bring earplugs with me to cons (had enough drunken con goers beating on doors/yelling the the halls to come prepared by now) Though I felt bad for anyone else having a hard time sleeping.

The con was very well attended, I believe the final count being something like 400 people, I made back my costs which I was very happy about. Though I wish I'd had the nerve to talk to more of the dealer's there. I struggle with pretty intense social anxiety, so I'm kinda quiet and shy at cons. But everyone there seemed really cool and I wish we'd hung out and chatted.

All in all it was a great time, my wife had a great time there and we're both planning to go back again next year. I think they'll be growing as a con very quickly!

Cheers!
~Ty

PFC was such a fun con! I really regret not being able to get anything from your table but I totally understand the music thing, I was a bit surprised how clearly I could hear from the 4th floor as well. Novar and the rest of the staff really did a fantastic job! Hope to see you there next year!

    that sounds wonderful!

small con opportunities like a break for dealers is really really nice. each dealer has to organize their own booth to 'man' and it can be a friend of a friend operation a lot of the times. earplug technique masterful always. even if it is a bit uncomfortable, i'd rather have six hours of REM sleep than be deprived.

    good info to know!

Final count: 406 attendees. I chose to stay next door in the overflow hotel (canceled my room in the con-hotel and swapped over). Even over there, I could hear the music.

Looking forward to my gray squirrel buddy when it's complete and shipped to me. I think I only gave you my RL name/addy when I placed the order that Sunday and paid.

Yes, the staff did a great job for a first year con.
