[MUSIC] Unusual problem with a song (advice please) by jinggo78

There's a song I never posted that I wrote right after my grandma Roxy died. Not sure why I never did. It might have been too personal for me to post on the internet. It's pretty good and it's not very sad so it wouldn't depress anyone. But I improvised something just now that has a main idea that sounds very similar to the repeated overall idea in "Roxy". So similar in fact that it sounds like a variation of the same song.

What I want to know from my readers and especially other musicians is: what do you do when you accidentally make two songs that sound extremely similar?

My goal when writing this new one was to write what sounds like a country's national anthem. Without intending it I got what I just described.

It's probably no coincidence though. One month from now will be the anniversary of my grandma's passing. She died right before mother's day in May 2012. I remember my mom was out of town to go to my grandma's funeral in another state so I missed spending mother's day with my mom so she could pay her final respects to hers. I wrote the song "Roxy" as my own way of saying goodbye and improvised the song while thinking of her. It was my closure and a very effective one. Music is so amazing. I feel sorry for anyone who doesn't know this.

And that's why I don't want these songs to sound similar because "Roxy" is dedicated to my grandma and deserves to be unique.

I really don't want to give up on what I just wrote. It's very good in it's own way. So do I change certain parts just enough so that it's more unique? Or do I try to improvise a new song with the same goal in mind but hope it comes out different?

So thoughts on this?
