Ready Player One - movie review by JohnStripedfur

The first I heard about this movie it was when several movie news sites announced a certain movie of this title was being made by Steven Spielberg and it was based on a popular book. Never heard of the book, but I waited for the teaser to be released in order to see what the movie is. And when I saw the teaser, I was hyped up immediately as it looked badass and it seems Spielberg is back doing blockbusters again. I was pretty excited. When people start to talk about the book itself, I thought the book came out like 20 or 30 years ago, but it turns out it came out not too long ago. This decade in fact. Surprised me. I've heard many people loved or like the book and I've heard several saying it's "Twilight for nerds". Which is the harshest criticism anybody could give to any novel. So, I decided to read the book first before going in to see what I'm in for and why people are arguing about it.

After reading it, I say it was a fun read. Admittedly, it wasn't best written book I've read. There are some parts of it I had some problems with, but overall it was a fun read. I can get why some people have a problem with it, but I can see why so many like this book.

The movie itself....was an absolute blast! I had a great time watching this movie. I love how they used the references of the 1980's and forward in this movie. It's not just the 1980's they made references to, but also the 90's and the 2000's. The soundtrack itself was really good, too. Not Guardians of the Galaxy level, but just as good. The visual effects of the movie was really top notched. A lot of people are worried how the Oasis world will be translated from the book to the movie and they nailed it. At least in my opinion. I like the changes they made in this movie. If you watched any of Spielberg's movies based on novels, you will know that he will make a few changes to make the movie worked. And I think he did a great job in this one. The movie is actually better than the book. They fixed some of the problems and made it better.

I know certain people will think this is Reference the Movie, but there's a reason for it. And if you watch it, you'll see it. I know people don't like references, but there are some movies who did references well (The Lego Movie) and some others did terribly (Ghostbusters 2016). This movie did references very well.

Overall, this was a really fun movie and you don't need to read the book to enjoy it or make it better. I will definitely see it again very soon.
