I absolutely do not agree, as a furry myself, i can tell you that me and 98% of furries do it for fun, and for the sake of being their character. the small majority sticks out and makes the furry fandom look terrible. I hope others agree that this article is just wrong!

I’m not a furry myself, but I’m not a human by birth, but a bobcat. I’m an animal that was switched at birth, and I do not agree with that article. A lot of people think furries are weird, sexual people but they’re not! They’re gentle, friendly, and just want hugs and love!

I personally see nothing wrong with this article. It only states what the word means, and that most of the furry community is involved in some sort of sexual fetish - which is 100% true. I don't consider myself a furry, and don't understand any of the fetishes, but for anyone who's saying that the general community isn't sexual or that the majority of it isn't has clearly never taken SFW off of their options and clicked browse. Honestly, I don't care what others are into. I don't care what they do with their time or energy, as long as they don't push it on me. Overall - if people want to throw another term on top of it, let them - that's how the world is today - everything needs to be labeled as something - even though it's fine without one... I'm open to any and all debate on this topic, but before anyone tries to say that the overwhelming majority of the community and art isn't sexual - take off SFW and click browse.

Lol I have SWF off all the time and its rare to see any NSFW stuff for me.

That's just impossible unless you have keywords blocked (but I think that's inkbunny that has that feature - it might have it here, idk). The community is so overwhelmed with NSFW arts of all varieties that I don't even use the browse button anymore :\ FurAffinity is the largest furry site out of all, so let's just use that as our prime example, as that's where the vast majority of the community resides (the numbers here are trivial compared to there). Go there and click browse with SFW off - it's completely overwhelmed. You might be lucky to find 10 piece of SFW on a page of 75 submissions on a very lucky day. Here it does seem less, I'll give you that, but I'm not talking this site, I'm talking the entirety of the community, which is why I'm going to go with FA as the prime example.

I wish I had YOUR LUCK THOUGH <3 I'd LOVE that - I like the art, but don't find taste / enthusiasm in the NSFW stuff at all, so it's quite annoying to be plagued with it constantly :\

the reason I don't agree with the article is because it makes people think that everyone in the furry fandom is exactly like that.

To be completely fair, most are... I know it's a generalization, but stereotypes do come from facts - sometimes getting twisted along the way. You could say the same about any stereotype - all of them are "wrong" for some portion of the group, but most are true (at least to some extent) for the majority. I delved into the settings here in the meantime - there're a TON of ways to protect yourself from NSFW material here - which is awesome - but I bet if you took them all off that this would be plagued just as the others are, as the majority of the community is.

I'm certainly not disagreeing with you on the fact that not 100% are like that - I know for certain that you and I aren't, as we do see eye to eye there! It's one of the main downsides to doing the art and such for me personally - every time someone sees that I do the anthromorphic art I get those kinda questions... which is fine - I'll answer them all - but like ya mentioned - it's just annoying that that IS the first thing people think, based on the majority.

I personally think the community caused itself to have the horrible reputation it does because of it's "100% acceptance" "policy" if you will. Because of this, the majority of people won't speak up, or act if something disturbing, or just wrong is happening... and since nothing happens it's seen as "that group is (x, y, z)" - which... they're not "wrong" for saying that, but they're not "right" either. That's one of those really annoying grey areas, where the majority set the pace and role of the group, even though there's a decent portion that has no say because we're not into the "normal" stuff.
