Yeeaaaah, so any of you left using Skype have probably noticed the product has been getting progressively worse this year. Even though there's been a "beta" version out for Linux for around a year, they still haven't fixed a single thing anyone's suggested or complained about, and as of today, it seems the plug was pulled on the ancient (but oh so much nicer to use) 4.3 version. I didn't notice until everyone had gone oddly silent for a time this afternoon.
The new Beta version is just.... awful, but rather than rant on about why, I'll just cut to the chase:
I am switching to Discord for IM.
I will be on during the same hours as Skype with the same sort of status - generally always away/idle since its mostly on at work. If you are a contact of mine on Skype, then check my profile message for my Discord username. I don't add just anyone and everyone, so I won't display it in a public journal. :P
For those wondering why I don't use Telegram, as it seems to be a more popular choice, it's because Telegram requires an SMS number to bind to the account. Two problems there - 1) I don't have one. 2) If I had one, I sure as hell would not provide it to a corporation. SMS is way too personal an identifier, so unless Telegram wises up and uses something more anonymous and universal like e-mail, I doubt I'll have such a thing.
If anyone knows of a SMS service that can bind a SMS number permanently but anonymously to someone (say by registering e-mail or whatever) let me know. :P
