Cars 3 - movie review by JohnStripedfur

I was never a huge fan of the Cars franchise. The first Cars movie I thought was an decent, yet enjoyable movie. It's those types of movies that you need to rewatch them enough times to get what they are trying to tell. The best parts were the racing parts. The rest, however, was meh. Cars 2 on the other hand, was a huge misstep not only for the franchise, but for Pixar itself. They changed the format from racing in general to a spy movie and only have Mater as the main focus. I can understand they want to go different, but it didn't pay off. It was pretty much the studio heads at Disney that wanted them to make a sequel and only feature Mater because young kids love the character and only need to sell more toys. The Planes movies were pretty much the same thing. As a matter of fact, that's the only reason there was a franchise. Just to sell toys. Next to the princess line-up, Cars is one of the most sellable items in Disney merchandising.

And now we have Cars 3. Another sequel to a Pixar movie that nobody was asking for. But, after the well received criticisms from Finding Dory, maybe Cars 3 could be another surprise.

It's not. It's not bad. Not at all. It's actually quite good. Not on a great level like Finding Nemo, Wall-E, Up, and Inside Out. But, on the same level as the first Cars movie. It went back to what the original was all about. Racing. Which is what Cars 2 was original going to be, but was put aside for a Mater movie. It's pretty much a typical sports movie about an athletes that's been around for several years and now finds himself as the crosshairs of whether or not to retire when a group of next generation athletes come in. And it was told pretty well. I was glued in to wee where the story is going. Course, the kids younger than 8 wasn't exactly paying attention to the flick and rather talk to either each other or to their parents. The adults, though, were trying to pay attention to the movie as well. The kids did paid attention the most during the first and third acts, but the second act. They were bored. The third act, though, was something I didn't see coming. But, it felt like I should considering Hollywood is undergoing their own progressive movement that they've been doing in the last few years. If you seen the movie and watched the third act. You would know what I'm talking about.

Overall, not a great movie, but decent enough to watch. Better than Cars 2 and the Planes movies, but just as decent as Cars 1. If you're a Cars fan, you would still like it no matter what. If you're a Pixar fan, you would think it's decent. Anyone else, make up your own opinions.
