The Lion King remake cast announcement so far... by JohnStripedfur

Here's the scoop so far on The Lion King remake. It's pretty much like the cast announcement they did for Beauty & The Beast remake a couple years ago. Only this time it's a bit ridiculous.

So far this is what the cast is:

Donald Glover as Simba (possibly adult)

James Earl Jones as Mufasa

Beyoncé as Nala (possibly adult)

The first two have been confirmed, but could change. The last one had just came up today and it's not yet totally confirmed. They are still in the talks on that. They still haven't casted the rest just yet. No Zazu, the hyenas, Timon, Pumbaa, or even Scar.

Here are my thoughts on this. First, Disney should stop calling this a "live-action" remake. Just call it a animated remake because let's face it. There's no way it'll be live action unless you can actually get real live animals to do the part and that'll be a PR nightmare. Especially with PETA on their backs the entire time.

Second, I don't think James Earl Jones should reprise the role. I mean sure, his voice is iconic in so many ways. But, it's a remake and having the original voice is going to confuse the newer audience who has never or yet to see the animated classic.

Third, I think casting Beyoncé as Nala is a bad idea. I mean, if she's going to provide the singing voice (if they are going for the musical route), then yes. If she's going to sing Can You Feel the Love Tonight as part of the soundtrack and during the End Credits, sure. But, as the actual voice. No. Why? Because she did a voice over job before and she wasn't good at all. She was the voice of a fairy queen from the Blue Sky animated movie Epic and the entire time her voice came up. It sounded so monotone that it made her character look bad. It was obvious at the time that she was just put there as a way to get butts in seats.

Now, I think this is what the cast should be if they really want people to come on board.

Keep Donald Glover as Simba. I think he'll do fine.
Replace James Earl Jones with Idris Elba as Mufasa. He has done great work as voice overs for many characters for Disney. He was a great Shere Khan in The Jungle Book remake.
Emma Stone as Nala. I think her voice would fit the character very well.
Sacha Baren Cohen as Rafiki. He has done great voice work before and is very animated in real life. He could pull it off.
Key and Peel as Timon and Pumbaa. Both have great comedy chemistry together and can bring the duo to life.
Robert Downy Jr. as Zazu. He can do a snobby British accent. He did it very well in the Sherlock Holmes movies.
Benedict Cumberbatch as Scar. He can do an evil intimidating voice. He was great as Smaug in The Hobbit movies.
Tajira B. Henson as Shenzi. Her Cookie attitude like voice would be perfect for the role.
Seth Rogen as Banzai. His laughter life voice is already hyena like.
Alan Tudlyk as Ed. He voiced a chicken in Moana so why not just provide laughs for Ed.

What do you think of this? What are your opinions? And who do you think the cast should be?
