2 the Ranting Gryphon vs. Anthrocon by JohnStripedfur

Here we go again. Another furry drama all over twitter.

This is what I've read, heard, and learned so far. About a day ago, Anthrocon told 2 that he won't be having his stand-up show this year as scheduled. They haven't given a reason why. Some speculate that it was probably because he defended a guy's right of free speech which happens to be a Nazi-sympathizer and also said some things that happened during the Inauguration. This is his statement:

When the news broke out from 2 himself. Once again, furries went up in arms about this. A lot of them were saying that they won't go to Anthrocon because of that. And some say that they should go and protest and even disrupt the convention. This is getting ridiculous even by furry standards. Just because he won't have his show this year, doesn't mean Anthrocon would suck. There are plenty of things to do while there. Like Pittsburg itself, Kage's Story Hour, the dance competitions, Dealer's Den, Artist Alley, the fursuit parade, and meeting the Guests of Honor. I hadn't been to Anthrocon since 2012, but I do know that I didn't come there just for 2's stand up. I come there to see the fursuits, fursuit around, hang with friends, meet new friends, buy stuff at the Dealer's Den, and what Pittsburg has to offer.

This whole thing is ridiculous. But, I can't really have an opinion on this. Anthrocon has of yet made a statement about this. So, I think we all should just cool our heads and don't give an opinion until we hear something from them.

I think its more about the idea of this kind censorship kind of age. Kind of like what happened to Pewdiepie recently, got attacked for making some off jokes but a great deal of his viewers knew he was joking? The wall street journal painted him as a nazi because of out of context clips. So I can understand why people would be upset. Like pewdiepie, they ruined opportunities for him. Because of the "drama" Disney cut ties with Pew and youtube won't let him publish his finished Scare pewdiepie 2 series because he's a "nazi". It's this whole idea of taking things to far. Just because you defend free speech doesn't make you automatically support what their saying. If anything you need these stupid people to be verbal so others can rip apart they're statements and ideas with facts/morals. And have them on display to make examples so people can throw tomatos at them. Because if we do start censorship "bad" speech, then who determines what's good or bad? It just spirals out of control to the point even saying "HI!" would be harassment. Though that's another kind of rant. lol So I feel this is less about the idea is 2 being the main part of the con. More about how the con responded to the drama. If your going to be flagged for supporting your own rights of speech. And that's all 2 is about really, freedom of speech. Comedy is a freedom of speech, he's made some dodgey jokes and people love him for that. I always viewed comedians as a way to keep freedom of speech alive, learning to laugh at yourself, politics, race, stereotypes and etc. But being flagged for that, leaves a bad taste in people's mouths. Cause the con won't verbally say it, but to protect their own they are saying with their actions/response to the drama "2 supports nazis, your not allowed to perform." And people want to defend him, because he doesn't and they want to protect his image from being tarnished. So I feel sympathy for him and the fans. The con is not being fair in their judgement. Or least in my opinion.

I do agree. I, myself, am a huge advocate for freedom of speech. Everybody has a right to say it. Even the hateful ones. If we start censoring their right to say it. We'll be no better than them. But, there is a difference between saying stuff for opinion and saying stuff to just get the rise out of people. Not saying 2 is one of them. He's a comedian. I've been to a few of his shows and he's hilarious, but hadn't seen him crossing the line during those performances. But, there are people who do those things. Like that Breitbart person who caused that huge riot over at Berkley a few months back. He's a troll. Now, I don't exactly agree with Anthrocon's decision on this, but we still hadn't seen a statement for them on the real reason. So far, all we know is from speculation. So, I'm hoping everybody would calm down before saying such rash things like plans to disrupt the convention just because or not going just because. Cooler heads solve better problems.
