The Ballad of Beroe by Adairia

From the bay Captain brought us a gift for the crew...
A beauty we were certain would bring us despair
She was small and curvy and sturdy and cute
With two colour eyes and long thick blood red hair

She oft led the shanty and cooked the best food
And cured us of scurvy when none else could do
Could navigate better than all of the crew
Even stole weapons from the navy one noon...

oh... the...
Clever and fearless wild Beroe...
Ambitions bigger than we could know
She did all she could to improve our life at sea
And that's how we knew she's as daft as could be!

One day she decided the ship should be hers...
So she ordered the Captain to retire.
To him, the thought to fight back never occurs...
So he surrendered to all her desires.

Most men only cared if the job could be done
And in that, she assured them she could do so with grace...
But some men objected because she's a woman
And to that, she replied with a harpoon to the face

oh... the...
Fair and fruitful Captain Beroe...
Only brutal if stupid let show
We're richer than ever and healthy as can be...
And that's why we'll follow'er from sea to sea
